Escape StudiosEscape Studios is Europes premier Creative Academy, established in 2002 we create world-class, studio-ready talent, with several BAFTA and Oscar winners counted amongst our alumni. This year we have ranked number 1 in the UK and number 9 globally in the Rookiesfor Best Game Design & Development School in the World 2022.Game Tech Art Tutor role at EscapeEscape Studios is looking for a new Tutor / lecturer to teach Game Tech Art in the School of Interactive and Realtime. The Tutor team all have games or Realtime industry backgrounds and we each bring our experience and passion to Escape, we want you to joinus and help shape our curriculum and teach our fantastic courses.We are seeking an experienced Game Artist or Realtime Artist to join our team and teach our Games Tech Art courses to Undergraduate, Postgraduate students and from time-to-time professionals from diverse industries. The Game Tech Art Tutor is part of a teamresponsible for the development and delivery of the Game Art programs to our Undergraduate and MA students and will work with the Head of Games. You are a Games or Realtime Artist who has released games and or interactive immersive experiences, or a Games Tech Art Lecturer who has contributed towards the creation of interactive entertainment, we are looking for people with experience and an understandingof production and have been part of a professional development cycle. It would be great if you had some teaching or mentoring experience, with that said if you can stand in front of a class and speak with confidence, love sharing knowledge and care about student development thats a great start.Teacher training and development will be given, and there will be an opportunity to engage with a PGCE in teaching once you are settled in. Ideally you will have a degree or MA. You need to be capable of explaining artistic and technical principles and create learning materials, we are looking for tutors who have a range of skills in making Game Art and understand the latest pipelines and how that can apply to a students work,as well as the technical limitations of the project. You will be comfortable teaching the foundations of Tech Art, helping students understand technical issues with scripting, shaders, blueprints etc., and optimal good practice, as well as also working at a AAA quality level, depending on the specific class. You will be comfortable briefing students on industry-based projects and guiding them as individuals or in groups, providing formative feedback as well as summative reviews, and of course marking work.Further responsibilities include: Working with the Head of Games and other members of staff to design and deliver fantastic game art classes and learning materials. Delivering training courses to students in a classroom environment, online and when necessary, to individuals and professional customers on and off-site Providing oneto-one feedback, coaching, show-reel clinics and support to students with a range of backgrounds and abilities Organising workloads to a schedule and work under pressure when required Cooperation with the Marketing, Sales, and Recruitment teams to support and participate in promotional and business development activities.Research and Development: Learning and development, its what we do, and we want you to keep your edge and pass that on to our students and the team. You will have time so you can learn our curriculum, deliver it, and importantly contribute to its ongoing development. We want tutorsto continue developing new skills and methodologies. Our engine of choice is Unreal Engine 5, and we use Maya, Substance Painter, Zbrush, Reality Capture and Photoshop amongst others. If you have used other engines or software, that is fine as you will be given time and help to get up to speed. Our use ofsoftware changes in line with industry. Development plans are aligned to the needs of courses and to the tutor, we continually review and provide training or on-line courses to help develop areas of interest. Time is given for research, dependent on the teaching timetable We encourage tutors to join industry associations and attend Games and Realtime conferencesFor team projects we have industry mentors review students work and help advise our briefs and course direction, developers such as, Creative Assembly, Sony, Rockstar, Rocksteady, Improbable and many more, this affords us fantastic exposure to some of thebest talent in the UKPortfolio: To apply for this role, you must have a portfolio of high-quality artwork demonstrating your expertise in 3D Game Art as well as examples of scripts and tools, proceduralism and Blueprints (see experience below)Experience and Qualifications:If you do not possess the experience below, we will still consider applicants who have a willingness to learn and have a compelling portfolio Blueprints and game engine optimisation Examples of high-quality 3D Artwork Python Scripting Houdini knowledge Advanced materials and shaders Niagara and FX Documentation, guidelines and confluence Understanding of Blueprints and game engine optimisation / packaging troubleshooting Have a degree or MA Teaching experience and/or a willingness to undertake teaching training with eventual membership of the HEA and postgraduate qualifications is also acceptable.Working hours: The working day is 9 till 6, 5 days a week and actual Teaching contact hours are mostly 16 hours a week with the rest of the time taken up with various duties such as course development, providing feedback, marking and research. The Degree Course has two terms a year but there can be teaching initiatives in the summerLocation / Hybrid working / working from home Our building is in Holborn and 5 minutes from Covent Garden in Central London On non-teaching days we can work from home, so our work pattern is hybrid in nature, generally staff are in the studios 2.5-3 days a week depending on the teaching timetable.
