Job Description

A diversified asset management group, with strategies across traditional markets as well as alternative investments like private equity, infra, real estate and private debt, is seeking someone operating at Fund Controller, Financial Controller or an equivalentlevel for a commercial role in their Funds Finance team.If youre looking to escape a core reporting role, are technically minded & want to sharpen your commercial analysis and business partnering skills then read on...This position is newly created and will be the main point of contact for the deal team, sitting between the investment professionals and BAU Finance as a trusted business partner and technical SME. Experience working in or with alternative investments is essential, be that in a fund accounting / financial controller type role or via equivalent client experience in a Big 4 or Top 10 accounting firm (sponsorship is unfortunately not available).Responsibilities will include:

  • Technical subject matter expert, working with colleagues in front office to ensure all accounting/re-porting/governance/valuations assumption are robust and accurate surrounding all deal-related activities and structures.
  • Main POC for the deal teams in providing transaction support and input into investment structures ensuring a coordinated approach and business-focused response to liquid and illiquid products changes.
  • Preparation of Investment Deal Manuals detailing the financial aspects of each transaction like legal structure, accounting and valuation impact.
  • Preparation of accounting papers for new product or significant transactions to help senior management to understand accounting and financial statements impact.
  • Work closely with the internal Valuations team to ensure they have up-to-date information in relation to the deal pipeline, understanding of new investments and corporate changes on existing deals.
  • Produce ad-hoc commercial analysis to help senior management make informed decisions.
  • Analysis/reporting of new deal investment budget versus actual spend.
  • Supporting group finance with Financial Instrument and Risk note disclosures for external accounts; technical support to various other teams in relation to disclosures at SPV / fund level.
  • Involvement in a raft of internal projects.
  • Oversight for one junior member of the team.
Your background:
  • Excellent academics, fully qualified - CA, ACA, ACCA - and at least 5 years+ PQE or equivalent.
  • Experience in-house in fund accounting, financial control, technical/group accounting or similar OR a background in a Big 4 or Top 10 accounting firm in Audit or Assurance.
  • Experience working in an alternative asset manager and/or with equivalent clients.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player who can build working relationships with internal stakeholders; happy being business facing talking to deal teams and investment professionals.
  • Self-starter with a can do attitude, highly organised, and ability to prioritise.
  • Confident working in flexible and changing scenarios and to tight deadlines.
