Job Description

Finance Operations Manager£41,044 - £44,620 per annumFull TimeThe Royal College of Art is an internationally renowned postgraduate art and design institution. In 2019/20 the College will have some 2,400 students registered for MA, MRes, MPhil and PhD degrees, and over 500 permanent academic, technical and administrative staff, with more than 1,000 visiting lecturers and professors. Operating within the Finance team, the Finance Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the operational (transactional) processes within Finance, ensuring good customer service across the College to internal and external stakeholders and effective, timely, query resolution. The Finance Operations Manager will:

  • Be the key contact for the Accounts Payable and Payroll managed services as well as being responsible for oversight of the Accounts Receivable function. In addition to ensuring these services are operating efficiently, and delivering a good customer experience, the role holder will also be responsible for identifying potential risks and ensuring controls are in place & operating effectively.
  • Work closely with other members of the Finance team to provide financial advice, guidance and analysis to internal and external stakeholders including staff across the Schools and departments as required.
  • Build credible relationships with key internal and external stakeholders with a key focus on providing excellent customer service.
  • The ideal candidate will be AAT qualified or equivalent. In addition, it is essential that candidates have:
  • Substantial knowledge and experience of working in an Accounts Payable function and/or broader finance operations/transactional role
  • A customer centred approach and demonstrable excellent customer service skills: both verbally and written
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Evidence of strong planning (time management) and organisational skills
  • High level of digital literacy and IT skills including productivity suites (Microsoft Office, Google for work), advanced spreadsheet skills, Web/Internet use and experience of using accounts payable module of finance systems
  • Experience of improving end-user processes
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate and engage effectively across all levels of the College, including students and staff and externally with suppliers
  • Ability to handle sensitive & confidential issues, keeping the manager informed at all times
