Job Description

The Automotive Group at IHS Markit is seeking a new team member to lead development of financial market products. This position will work closely with sales and product managers in the Automotive team to build, support, and commercialize new information products suited to the buy-side, sell-side, and other financial community personas. This position will work closely with the head of the Planning Solutions team who is responsible for automotive forecasting and analysis within the group. The Product Manager will: Use their network and knowledge of the financial sector to conduct in-depth voice-of customer research into automotive-related product and service requirements of the buy-side, PE and sell-side personas Translate this information into a defined set of product requirements for the Automotive Group covering content, format and delivery mechanisms Conduct ongoing deep-dive reviews of Automotive Group assets, levering these to define new and enhanced products to aid in the decision making by financial market players, primarily on the buy-side Work with internal stakeholders in the development of these products including the business line product leads, IT development, analytics teams Develop the strategic roadmap for the financial sector portfolio, including evaluation of new datasets, partnerships and acquisitions Work closely with the Product Management function to create sales enablement materials and processes to educate and inform the Sales team on financial products Work with our Marketing team to raise the external profile of our financially focused activities Conduct regular client meetings acting as an SME to support the sales process of financial (and other IHS Markit) products into the financial community On an as-needed basis, leverage Automotive Group information to build and deliver automotive market outlooks to financial personas at meetings and conferences Be accountable for the financial performance of products sold into this space - tracking and driving clear revenue targets with a clearly defined roadmap. Maintaining and growing our existing book of business in the space which is primarily on the sell-side Liaise with other parts of IHS Markit (especially the Finance group) as required to build connections and cross-team awareness Principal Accountabilities: Develops portfolio, solution, and product strategies that articulate market needs, market potential and segmentation, competitive landscape, solution offering(s), packaging, pricing, value position, differentiation, and roadmap Guides market awareness activities and synthesize all inputs into comprehensive understanding of industry problems, competitive landscape, buyer and user personas, and emerging trends in order to inform strategy development, optimization and execution. Develops and helps coordinate the commercial launch and product development lifecycles with key business stakeholders Provides operational oversight of portfolio, solution and product level revenue and expense performance to inform short, medium and long-term solution level plans Collaborates with Sales and Marketing to develop, execute, and optimize marketing plans. Leads evaluation of build, buy and partner alternatives in collaboration with business stakeholders, and makes appropriate recommendations to drive business growth and transformation Cultivates solution/product and operational innovation based on emerging market trends, new technologies and best practices Acts as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding the product vision, strategy, financial performance and new product development Conducts interviews of existing users, buyers and potential customers to identify unmet business needs related to products. Validates identified business problems to quantify their pervasiveness and severity in the market. This also includes understanding why recent evaluators did or did not buy assigned products and the steps they took in the decision making process. Recommends action accordingly Directs research in core markets to drive understanding of unmet needs, market segmentation, competitive landscape, and market potential Periodically evaluates competitive and alternative offerings, assessing their strengths, weaknesses, and market position relative to current IHS Markit offerings Articulates archetypal user and buyer personas for assigned products, describing their backgrounds, objectives, expectations, attitudes, motivations, usage patterns, skill sets, etc. Refines existing product strategies and roadmaps through periodic assessment of market needs, market potential and segmentation, competitive landscape, solution offering(s), packaging, pricing, value position, differentiation, and IHS Markit distinctive competencies Responsible for reporting and providing guidance on product financial performance for one or more products to ensure go-to-market and operational execution and to deliver targeted results and promotes continuous improvement Continually solicits feedback from the Sales team, SMEs, and customers to assess competitive position, calibrate pricing, assess sales pipeline and customer orders in order to inform and refine go-to-market plans EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: • 10+ years of experience in the financial sector, or in an analysis role with exposure to automotive and/or financial analysis. You may well have experience as a sell-side analyst or on the buy-side. Familiarity with the automotive industry in an analysis role would be well regarded as would product management experience with data-related products. Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in industry/workflow. Advanced degree in an analytical subject would be considered favorably Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to develop and conduct presentations for clients, prospects and management Demonstrated ability to understand complex data sets and synthesize these into actionable insights and analytics suitable for the financial community Flexibility and team-oriented approach and willingness to deal in a positive way with ambiguity and change Occasional travel including overnight domestic or international trips may be required Proficient with PC and related software, including Microsoft Office suite Inclusion and diversity are critical to the success of IHS Markit, and we actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds.
