Job Description

Environment and Social Analysts The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is financing the Infrastructure for Tomorrow-infrastructure with sustainability at its core. We began operations in Beijingin January 2016 and have since grown to 109 approved members worldwide. We are capitalized up to USD100 billion and Triple-A-rated by the major international credit rating agencies. Working with partners, AIIB meets clients needs by unlocking new capitaland investing in infrastructure that is green, technology-enabled, and promotes regional connectivity. AIIB is recruiting Environment and Social Analysts under the Environment & Social Development Stream. The Environment and Social Analysts will be assigned to the Operational Services Department (OSD) and will help in the preparation of bothprivate sector and sovereign finance operations, implementation and reporting of projects as well as the conduct of any necessary research and analytical work, under the supervision of Senior Specialists. Their assignments will help them develop skills inthe application of environmental, social and climate provisions at the operational level. Analysts will rotate assignments and assume different roles and responsibilities related to environmental, social and climate agenda. Responsibilities: Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support AIIBs due diligence on the environmental and social aspects of projects, conduct desk studies to assess the environmental and social (ES) feasibility of AIIBs projects.
  • Support the screening of the projects for potential environmental, social and climate change-related risks and impacts.
  • Conduct studies on country systems and regulations of environmental social issues.
  • Support the appraisal of the environmental social risks and impacts associated with investment projects against the requirements of AIIBs Environmental and Social Framework ESF.
  • Support the review of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP) prepared by clients.
  • Support the monitoring of the implementation of ES aspects of projects and project compliance with AIIBs ES requirements for low-risk projects, and address any issues that may arise during project implementation, including any changes in project designor scope.
  • Support the preparation and review of project documents.
  • Help organize training sessions on the ES impact management systems for AIIB staff and clients; and contribute to AIIBs knowledge base on environmental and social aspects, particularly related to climate change, biodiversity and ecosystem services, andemerging ESG frameworks, land acquisition and involuntary resettlement, livelihoods, grievance management, and stakeholder engagement, among others.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant field of environmental and social sciences, including environmental planning, environmental science, human ecology, engineering, policy or management.
  • 2-3 years (for Bachelors degree holders), or 1-2 years (for Masters degree holders) of relevant experience; doing research or working in ES development-related research institutes/universities, NGOs, government or consulting firms preferred.
  • High levels of competency in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Knowledge of one or more areas of environmental and social impact and risks management, such as ESIA, biodiversity, labor, occupational health and safety, involuntary resettlement, indigenous peoples, gender, and inclusion.
  • Experience of working in developing countries a plus.
  • Good team player with strong initiative.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills in English.
