Job Description

Job Title: Domiciliary Care WorkerLocation: Blackheath, London, SE3 0PWSalary: £12.31 per hourJob Type: Permanent, Part-Time - 24 hours per weekAbout Morden College: Morden College is a charity that is dedicated to enabling a life-lived independence for the older people they provide homes for, through life, as they grow older. The Charitys core purpose is to provide older people who are in need with a home for life within its beautiful grounds, with amazing facilities and surrounded by its caring people, who work tirelessly to provide the highest quality of care.Job Purpose: As a Domiciliary Care Worker, your purpose will be to provide residents with a "good life" by promoting dignity, independence, choice and fulfilment within a policy of managed risk taking.You will provide care to residents, enabling them to remain independent, by providing personal care, assessing, monitoring and evaluating individual needs as well as supporting residents with household and some housekeeping tasks.Its important that you not only promote mental health and physical wellbeing to residents aiming to maximise their independence and meaningful engagement but also that you are able to update and maintain accurate care plans, records, assessments and areable to communicate this with families, GPs, and other professionals.Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To be approachable, receptive, and reactive to resident needs, providing day to day personal care, reporting any changes in a residents condition to the appropriate professional to ensure their wellbeing, security, and safety
  • To monitor residents dietary needs, assist with the preparation of food, drinks, and snacks. To assist with eating and drinking, monitor, record, and report weight fluctuations
  • Be responsive and sociable, encouraging residents to participate in social and occupational activities designed to stimulate and enhance their highest quality of life
  • Be aware of how to apply the principles of the Mental Capacity Act (2005) to protect people who lack capacity and maximise their ability to make decisions or participate in decision making
  • To provide domestic and practical support, washing up, cleaning spillages, hoovering, bed making, linen changes, clothes washing/ironing and cleaning hygiene areas. Ensure a hygienic and odour free environment, encouraging residents wherever possible tobe involved to foster a homely environment
  • To carry out shopping trips/pension collections when required
  • To assist and administer medication, recording accurately details of the assistance given or medication administered. To monitor stock levels, supporting the resident to order medication when required
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Care Certificate
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • QCF Level 2 Award in End-of-Life Care
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a residential care setting for older adults, including understanding of care responsibilities towards individuals, families and carers and team members in relation to safe-guarding and health and safety procedures.
  • Effective communication skills that promote the needs of people who use the service
  • IT literacy specifically Microsoft packages
