Job Description

Citizens UK is a people power alliance of diverse local communities working together for the common good. Our mission is to develop leaders, strengthen civic organisations and make change. Our 550 member communities are deeply rooted in their local areasand connect every day to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Through the method of community organising we enable people experiencing powerlessness to develop their leadership and come together with the power and strategy to make change. This leadsto hundreds of neighbourhood improvements - from zebra crossings outside primary schools to renovated public toilets in cemeteries. And it leads to some of the biggest campaign impacts in the UK, such as winning over £1.5 billion of wages through the UK LivingWage campaign, securing a legal cap on the cost of credit to control exploitative lending, and ending the detention of children for immigration purposes. We enable local campaigns to grow into large-scale social change projects such as the Living Wage Foundation,Parents and Communities Together (PACT), and Sponsor Refugees, that form an integral part of our theory of change. The most prominent of these is the rapidly growing Living Wage Foundation with a network of nearly 9,000 accredited Living Wage Employers acrossthe UK. ProjectCitizens UK operates within communities, engaging with leaders of local institutions. The variety and mix of institutions are our strength yet can also create challenges. Two of our organisational values are Inclusion and Solidarity - we wishto strengthen our organisation by developing our D&I approaches. We know this work will take time and we recognise that we need a skilled and experienced D&I professional to assist us on our journey. We envisage a 16 hour per week role for a 9-month fixedterm, but we are flexible as the project develops.PurposeOur D&I project encompasses our whole organisation, our staff, trustee board, plus our externally facing chapters and projects. We are flexible on how we engage the specialist (i.e., via a consultancyor employment). We are looking for a good project manager with collaborative approach to guide and lead us.Suggested goals:Consider and shape our Inclusion Strategy - giving clarity and realistic goalsComplete and ensure cross integration of D&I workstreamsunderway, including:o Work with the Rainbow Network and HR to develop appropriate practical safeguarding guidance for LGBTQ+ colleagueso Review the Living Wage Foundations Anti-Racism Strategy and support the implementation of the objectives on both a teamand organisational levelo With HR completeevaluate employee ethnicity statistics and pay-gap analysis results o Work with the Senior Management Teams Task-Finish Inclusion Group to providing guidance and support for diversity audit and improvement plansacross volunteer leadership groupso Work with BAME Network and HR to consider the trainingmentoring to support BAME staff progressiono Considerdevelop improvements to our employee induction process around inclusionDevelop and complete new D&I workstreamsand initiatives, including:o Scope and design work on disability inclusiono Scope and design work on class inclusionDesign and implement approach to monitoring and evaluation of D&I workMain ResponsibilitiesOn a day-to-day basis report into the Head of People& Development, plus report strategic progress to the Exec Team. The D&I Project Manager will be expected to manage their own independent workload, as well as engaging with and developing colleagues, Trustees, Chapter Leaders, and other stakeholders. The mainresponsibilities are outlined below:Contribute towards achieving CUK strategic objectives: Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the Diversity & Inclusion project and the core mission of Citizens UKLead on developing and implementing the Diversity &Inclusion policies, procedures, and culture across Citizens UKBuild and manage projects & achieve work targets: Build and develop the D&I workstream to scale, incl. budget management Start to deliver the key D&I project objectives to time and budget; incl.reporting on key performance indicatorsLearning and expertise: Use up to date D&I knowledge and be committed to personal professional development Provide other Citizens UK stakeholders with relevant and helpful advice and technical supportDevelop and manageexternal relationships Continue to nurture a network of existing and new external relationships to support your work and further Citizens UK goals. Seek feedback and act to ensure that stakeholders are having a good experience of working with Citizens UKCommunicationsProvide stakeholders with regular communication; ensuring that their needs are met with timely, appealing, communication materials Represent Citizens UK effectively to external audiences in meetings and at events.Develop and manage internal relationshipsManage and coordinate the D&I work of colleagues across Citizens UK.Develop our Stonewall membership and relationship effectivelyGenerate income and resourcesConsider opportunities to grow sources of income/resource. Contribute to the budgeting process,the management of income and participate in the development of funding proposals
