Job Description

The Collegeis seeking an experienced and forward-thinking individual to join the team as Director of Financial Reporting and Planning.Reporting to Imperials Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Financial Reporting and Planning plays a crucial role in shaping and managing Imperials financial reporting processes and financial planning initiatives. This role is responsible for leadingthe Colleges management accounting, financial accounting, and financial planning teams comprising 13 staff in total; the postholder will also be a key member of the Finance leadership team.This is a challenging role with a broad range of deliverables; these will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to make a significant impact on the way in which the College finances and supports its academic mission.Selected responsibilities include:

  • Approve and present financial statements & analysis to executive management and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Plan and deliver the budgeting and financial planning processes for the entire College.
  • Deliver executive management with insight & strategic advice to support long term planning and decision making.
  • Provide leadership & coaching to direct reports to develop a high-performing financial reporting and planning team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate and consistent financial data across the organisation.
  • Identify potential issues associated with unusual or complex transactions or proposed accounting and reporting rules; review and approve the appropriate treatment.
  • Support the OPUS team in the College-wide implementation of a new ERP system; deliver more timely & accurate reporting post-implementation.
  • Confidently present controversial and / or complex information to a broad range of stakeholders at all levels across the College.
Candidate Requirements:The successful candidate should possess:
  • A finance qualification with broad exposure across a wide range of accounting, budgeting and analytical topics.
  • Significant experience of managing, motivating & developing both managers and team members.
  • Strategic and innovative thinking and the ability to deal with a complex portfolio.
  • An up-to-date knowledge of relevant accounting standards and reporting best practice.
  • Experience of supporting ERP implementation / finance transformation programmes and improving reporting & analytical outputs.
  • A proven ability to deliver results, with the skills to multi-task and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent team-working skills with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different functions.
