Job Description

Development Director, Live Music NowSalary - Up to £50KLocation - Central London Full time, permanentEngagement with live music has been shown to bring measurable health, social and educational benefits and this is particularly the case for older people living with dementia or loneliness, as well as children with special educational needs and disabilities. Our client, Live Music Now, makes an enormous impact on the lives of vulnerable children and adults, throughout the UK, by delivering around 3,500 participatory performances and specialist workshops each year to over 120,000 people, through its musicians who are young professionals at the start of their career.Since its creation in 1977, by Yehudi Menuhin and Sir Ian Stoutzker, the charity has reached over 2.5 million people. As the leading organisation in this field, Live Music Now works regularly at hundreds of schools and care homes each year. However, many vulnerable children and older people still cannot access the transformative benefits of live music. The charity’s vision is to scale up its activities, working with partner organisations, teachers and carers to create long-term sustainable programmes throughout the UK. To achieve this, the Board and Executive Director of LMN are putting in place a step change in its fundraising strategy, alongside a profile-raising strategy.A highly accomplished Development Director is therefore sought to help lead this fundraising strategy. Ideally, the successful candidate will:

  • Bring strategic knowledge of raising funds through multiple income streams including major donors, individual giving, legacies and corporate sponsorship
  • Demonstrate their expertise in developing sustainable partnerships
  • Understand the needs of working with vulnerable adults and children in the arts, health, care or education sectors
  • Possess excellent personal and public presentation skills
  • At all times display empathy, with dynamism, in their internal and external relationships
  • This exciting and essential new role is a key appointment for the charity, so culture fit is as important as the skills required. A charity fundraising background is not essential although strong commercial acumen, with a proven track record of successful income generation, is required. As an individual, you will believe deeply in the impact that LMN’s work can make to the wellbeing of disadvantaged people and be able to convey this in ways that relate to the interests and motivations of potential donors. It is important that the new Development Director is comfortable talking to people from different backgrounds and is confident in their ability to tell the story’ in an engaging and compelling way.To apply for this exceptional opportunity, and to request an application pack, please send your CV and Supporting statement to Jenny Warner, Managing Director, Charisma Recruitment Ltd quoting reference JO2761.Closing date for applications: 9 June 2020Interview date: 24 June 2020
