Job Description

Pay: MPS/UPS (plus fringe areaallowance) Start Date: September 2021We are seeking to appoint anoutstanding DT teacher. Our Technology Department thrives on the notions ofinclusion, creativity and enthusiasm for the subject. Our newly re-written KS3curriculum is designed to build skills over time towards GCSE. We havespecialist teachers delivering a wide range of technology skills and uptake atGCSE is good for both Food and Nutrition and Designing the Built Environment.We also have a very successful Level 3 programme in Pre Construction Practicewhich is taught across WG6. The ideal candidate will bepassionate about the Technology curriculum and how this can be taught in aninspiring way to maximise exam success, spark students passion for thesubject, and to help students to lead successful future lives. They should alsobe able to evidence a proven track record of high impact in teaching, learningand curriculum excellence, to support strong outcomes and learning experiences.The ability to extend students engagement beyond the school day, throughextra-curricular would be an advantage. The Technology Departmentcomprises of 4 specialist teachers and 2 technicians. The Head of Departmenthas overall responsibility for the teaching of all curriculum areas withinTechnology which includes Food and Nutrition, Designing the Built Environmentand Professional Construction Practice. The Department has specialistclassrooms including a kitchen, workshop and design suite. The person appointedwill be joining an experienced and supportive team. At Key Stage 3 students are taughtin groups of 20 exploring one large curriculum area across the entire year witha different focus depending on the project being undertaken. Year 7 focus onskills and safety through workshop challenges, basic recipes and architecturaltasks. Year 8 study sustainability and the environment within town planning,food provenance and career focus modules. Year 9 undertake an applied sciencefocus throughout the year with both food science investigations and researchingconstruction technology as well as learning how to use industry software REVITto design a building. Technology is an optional subjectat GCSE - there is good uptake and it enjoys considerable success for both foodpreparation and nutrition GCSE and the Designing the Built Environment course.At A Level we work with our colleagues across WG6 to offer the Level 3Professional Construction Practice course. The department attained strongresults last summer, in both DBE and Food and Nutrition and is on track tosurpass them with the current groups.
