Job Description

AdvertWe are recruiting for experienced Band 5 Staff Nurses who are interested in our very busy Day Surgery unit at the Royal London Hospital.The Day Surgery/Short Stay Unit is an exciting and varied purpose built unit which cares for patients with a range of surgical conditions. This department comprises of three different areas where staff are rotated.These areas include:

  • Admission – where patients are admitted for their surgery
  • Day surgery – patients post-surgery who need to recover for four hours or less and
  • 3D ward-for patients who require a longer post-surgery stay
    • The unit is a wide mixture of short stay and complex surgical patients across a variety of surgical specialties including General, colorectal, ENT, renal, urology, vascular, ophthalmology, gynaecology, plastics, orthopaedic, neuro and spinal surgery.It is attached to 2 operating theatres pre-operative assessment area and admission and discharge accommodation. It is a dynamic and well led unit run by a highly focused and friendly team of experienced nurses.If you are keen to gain a wide range of nursing experience with day surgery and in patients with a range of clinical conditions this area is for you.You will need to provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care in conjunction with working with the other multidisciplinary team, to provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, in accordance with agreed policies.You will also supervise and teach junior members of staff and learners as required, and maintain your own personal development with support.The successful candidates will demonstrate:
  • Keen interest in developing a surgical career
  • 6-12 months post registration experience
  • Mentorship, or working towards it
  • Ability to lead a shift
