Job Description

***Data Engineer - Contract - Remote Based***Data EngineerUntil end November 2020 initiallyRemote Based(Office is based in Chester)£Competitive pwd Ltd CompanyTech Skills Required: ETL Design, Talend, MYSQL, VerticaWe are currently looking for a Data Tester with experience of Talend, to work on our clients finance data project. This will be a contract until the end of November initially and will be fully remote based.Responsibilities:

  • An expert in Data Modelling that will create logical models and turn them into physical models that are usable, intuitive and perform to expectations.
  • Advise on solutions and best practice for ETL technologies such as Talend
  • Develop data solutions and best practice using Linux based database technologies such as MySQL & Vertica.
  • Ensure the delivery of secure and efficient data products to project timescales.
  • Ensure that decisions are well thought out and future proof - in the primary areas of technology, functional solutions and architecture.
  • Assist with incidents and problems where needed.
  • Expected to provide accurate estimates for stories within the work stream.
  • Peer review the designs and code of fellow team members as well as seek peer approval for their own work.
    • Essential Skills and Experience:
  • ETL design (Talend)
  • Produce a mapping spec (i.e Data transformation rules) based on data model and requirement
  • ET build
  • MYSQL skills
  • Vertica
    • Other Skills and Experience required:
  • A detailed understanding of the modelling lifecycle and varied modelling approaches.
  • Experience with at least one modelling tool
  • Demonstrable an expert level of understanding in database design, physical modelling and best practice.
  • Very strong SQL skills and experience.
  • Exposure to ETL tools ideally working with Talend candidates with suitable experience in other tools such as Ab Initio or Informatica will be considered
  • Understanding of best practice with re-usable components, functions and routines
  • Experience of troubleshooting & performance tuning techniques to cope with the challenges presented by large data volumes
  • Excellent knowledge of industry best practices, methodologies, techniques, tools, resources and data legislation
  • Experience with database technologies ideally Vertica, MySQL and MongoDB or similar Linux based DBs
  • Experience of Linux based applications
  • Experience with Data Profiling tools
