Job Description

Business Background:Our client has grown from inception in April 2011 to become one of the leading e-commerce sites in the UK.Their culture is characterised by entrepreneurialism, analytical rigour and a willingness to go the extra mile to help the business succeed.Commercial & Marketing Department:The Commercial & Marketing Department have several responsibilities. We manage the acquisition of new consumers/users/visitors/email addresses into the Excalibur Universe. We presence across all online and offline channels, including Social Media, TV, Search,Affiliates and Mobile apps. We also create, maintain and run the daily/weekly/monthly/bespoke internal reports and analysis on our business. These reports enable the business to make day-to-day trading decisions and the enable the execs to make big, strategicand financial decisions.Role SummaryThe role will be a centre of excellence for Business Insight and Reporting. Firstly, by maintaining the current suite of reporting tools (primarily based in SQL, Adobe and Quicksight) and daily/weekly/monthly/ad-hoc reports, but also build out new capabilitiesand action changes as needed. Secondly, by being a key person in data-investigation and providing insight and data-driven strategic decision making of the marketing team and the business as a wholeApplicants are expected demonstrate a keen sense of intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn on the job, and to have ambitious career expectations. The successful candidate will need to be able to manipulate data in order to problem solve and to interpretdata resulting in real tangible suggestions and optimisations.Initially the primary responsibilities of this role will be to master the internal reporting and be able to provide senior managers with business insight. However the role will also be responsible for supporting the various Marketing Managers in optimisingspend in order to maximise ROI.Main Responsibilities:

  • Independent, Structured and Precise Work Ethic
    • Willing and able to independently think, investigate and drill into data, spotting and highlighting important trends.
  • Excellent Numerical and Analytical Competency
    • Applicants need to be experienced with programming and query languages and able to learn new skills as needed
    • Excel: Basic manipulation and presentation of data - expect all applicants to be proficient in this
    • SQL: Extensive knowledge and experience of SQL is an absolute must. Substantial experience running insight/analytical queries on very large databases
    • Amazon RedShift & Quicksight: Ideally the applicant will have experience working with RedShift environments and with Quicksight data-insight platform
  • Problem Solving Beyond The Numbers
    • Proven track record of problem solving projects when applicant owns the problem, scoping of analysis and proposal of solution, not just an analyst presenting numbers
    • Next-steps and so-what first thought process
  • Business acumen
    • Understanding of how a business P&L works and ability to problem solve for profit - detailed knowledge (eg. accountancy) is not needed
  • Website Tags and Digital Marketing Tracking (all nice to haves)
    • Basic understanding of how websites work (cookies, APIs, databases, web anlaytics, tag managers, ), and HTML and/or javascript
    • Google tag manager and google analytics (or similar systems)
Example Responsibilities:
  • Run and maintain daily/monthly reports tracking business area performance against targets
  • Design and create daily/weekly/monthly reports as the business requires (in Excel, SQL, Python & Quicksight)
  • Perform bespoke analysis to help answer management, financial and strategic questions
  • Debate output, insight and commercial implication of the analysis to the business
  • Support marketing managers in analysing and optimising BAU marketing activity.
  • Help define, set up and analyse A/B tests in order to maximise ROI
  • Examples of projects the successful candidate could be involved in
    • Integrating deep links across internal & external marketing channels so consumers can access our brand via the app instead of mobile web.
    • Creative testing
      • Video vs. static across social media
      • Analysing the success of a new TV campaign
    • Helping to launch new channels across our EU markets
