This role will require strong leadership and communicationsskills alongside extensive knowledge of marketing design principlesbalancing business requirements with creative and design quality. You will be able to recruit and shape a team of internal designers, freelancers and agencies, and design the vendor modeland process management tools to manage a high volume of creative and design work. Were looking for someone with a passion for people, marketing and design, with the ability to work collaboratively with marketing colleagues and agencies to take our marketingdesign to the next level.Key responsibilities:Commercial

  • Establish a vendor model to meet budget requirements and drive efficiencies.
  • Define effective workflow processes for the management of design and media work using project management software and strategies for internal communication.
  • Optimise delivery (speed, quality and value for money) with effective management of workflow systems and processes.
  • Manage the department design budget, working with the marketing team to advise and define the budget for campaigns throughout the year.
  • Work with the marketing and wider business teams to understand commercial objectives and use this to guide priorities in the design team.
Team leadership
  • Lead on recruitment, development and mentoring a high functioning marketing design team.
  • Develop strong relationships with vendors: agencies and freelancers, ensuring a regular rotation of work as needed to maintain capacity and knowledge-sharing.
  • Create a positive culture of learning and development, encouraging team members to enhance skills and experience.
  • Model, facilitate and encourage collaboration with colleagues across marketing and the wider business.
Creative and visual design
  • Be the brand design lead for the department, work with stakeholders in marketing to represent UK Schools requirements and champion brand guidelines.
  • Lead on the development of design templates to facilitate consistency, quality and speed of design across team.
  • Advocate and adopt accessibility guidelines and user centric design principles.
  • Lead on the creative direction, quality and market fit of output for promotion of UK Schools products and services.
  • Keep up to date with advances and trends in design and media and ensure standards of design, design services, illustration, media and animation are in line with industry standards.
  • Advise, direct and resolve design challenges and enhance projects in collaboration with design and marketing team.
Skills and abilities:
  • Good understanding of the principles of marketing design and keen awareness of evolving media channels and devices.
  • Excellent visual design skills (creative flair, strong typography skills and art direction).
  • Excellent knowledge of the Adobe creative suite.
  • Experience managing teams, working in design departments, managing multiple agencies/freelancers.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Great communicator, skilled at taking/refining briefs and understanding requirements.
  • A facilitator, keen to make things happen at pace, manage expectations and unblock issues.
  • Enjoys working under time-pressure with deadlines.
  • Coaching/mentoring skills to support both direct reports and junior members of the team.
