Job Description

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER - SAFER COMMUNITIESOur local authority client is looking for an experienced Community Engagement Officer to join their Safer Communities services.MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOBTo work as part of the Community Engagement strand of the Safer Communities Service which brings together statutory and non - statutory establishments, community and voluntary services, to assist with the reduction of crime and its associated harms in Lewisham.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To contribute to the continual development of local knowledge of the drivers, prevalence and wider harms of crime in Lewisham.
  • To contribute to the development of the borough’s risk assessment in relation to crime reduction, identifying local threats, areas of good practice and any other issues, which impact on cohesion in Lewisham.
  • Report directly to and support the work of the Community Safety Coordinator by maintaining and developing a system of project controls, assisting with events and consultation and carrying out project based tasks.
  • Support with identifying, developing and delivering project work that addresses local needs and that supports and contributes to the work of the Violence Reduction team and wider serious youth violence work, in co-operation with key partners.
PERSON SPECIFICATION/SELECTION CRITERIAKNOWLEDGE
  • Knowledge of partnership work and Crime and Disorder Partnerships
  • Knowledge of effective engagement tools and interventions
Experience
  • Experience of liaising with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies
  • Excellent experience of working in a culturally diverse setting.
  • Experience of implementing, monitoring and reviewing programmes.
