Job Description

Our organising and political engagement team brings together organisations, elected representatives and communities. They creatively define, develop and deliver a shared vision for change, putting people at the heart of the problem solving processes. Working with client organisations and the communities they serve, your role will help develop and deliver the right approaches to achieve this, tailoring best practice to the specific situation.As part of a growing team, you’ll report to our Organising and Political Engagement Director and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to shape, deliver and share impactful approaches, proposals and projects.With experience in and a real passion for community engagement and participation, you’ll help us: develop approaches internally; support clients in shaping and succeeding in these areas; and share your skills and knowledge both informally and through training with clients and those in the communities they work with, helping them deliver for and with communities for the long-term.Responsibilities

  • working with client organisations to establish the challenge/opportunity they face and how community participation and engagement can support their goals
  • working with the Organising and Political Engagement Director and others across the team to further develop our approaches and tools for community participation and engagement
  • create and maintain long-term relationships with clients, communities and your colleagues
  • proactively support the development and delivery of a business development plan in these areas, including identifying and speaking with potential and existing clients to develop opportunities and write bids
  • developing project plans and recommendations around approach for clients, and deliver those with a close eye on timelines and resource
  • developing and delivering training sessions for colleagues, clients and the communities they work with to help build further capability in these areas
  • proactively identify opportunities for our clients to deepen and sustain their engagement with community groups beyond the project
  • engaging effectively with stakeholders of all levels, including elected representatives from a range of parties
  • identifying, developing and maintaining partnership opportunities with organisations in community participation and engagement spaces
  • sharing the story of our work and impact both internally and in public-facing communication products
  • staying on top of relevant emerging and cutting-edge trends, proactively sharing these and supporting the skill development of team members
  • working transparently and with accountability, regularly reporting back on progress, opportunities and barriers, both internally and to clients
  • Skills and Experience
  • experience of using community engagement and/or participation approaches
  • experience of shaping community engagement and/or participation approaches
  • ability to apply these approaches virtually
  • strong moderating, hosting and/or facilitation skills e.g. able to run workshops and bring different groups and voices together
  • experience of reporting back to a range of stakeholders (internal and external)
  • ability to write and support the development of proposals for clients
  • a passion for our mission and values and the roles that organisations and communities can play in creating lasting change and in the real value of local voices and lived experience
  • awareness of the need for diversity and/or representation in this work and experience of having worked to include seldom heard voices
  • strong project and time management skills, able to own the delivery of an approach
  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop good relationships with key stakeholders at a range of levels
  • experience of working in or with local government, wider public sector organisations, or in a similar environment such as the charity sector or political world
  • ability and experience of sharing your skills with others
  • sharing the story of our work and impact both internally and in public-facing communication products
  • identifying, attend and speak at events within these areas
  • ability to work to and thrive on a deadline
  • work transparently and with accountability, regularly reporting back on progress, opportunities and barriers, both internally and to clients
