Our S&CDD practice works withinvestors and companies to consider the commercial and strategic rationale for potential M&A transactions. We look at the market, the technology, the competition and the regulatory environment among other areas.Leveraging our expertise and networks, we talk to market experts and customers to understand the outlook for a business that is being considered for sale or acquisition and we quantify the outlook to give our clients more certainty on the long-term potentialof the investment (or disposal) they are considering. We work at the leading edge of new technology and new business models with innovators and entrepreneurs who are driving disruption and progress in their markets.From day one, you’ll get early client contact across a wide range of sectors including:Healthcare and Life Sciences (HCLS)

  • We cover the spectrum of life sciences, health and social care. This includes pharmaceuticals, pharma services, provider / multi-clinics, medical devices, complex care, special education and animal health. We work with and analyse innovative and tech-drivenbusinesses that are often driving significant positive impact on health and outcomes
Consumer, Retail, Leisure and Travel (CRLT)
  • Working across all segments of the consumer landscape, including fashion & apparel, health & beauty, leisure & hospitality plus the channels in which these businesses go to market, stores, online, marketplaces, D2C. We focus on understanding consumer behavioursand how they engage with brands. We use these consumer insights along with the latest digital tools and data analysis to devise winning strategies for our clients
Technology, Media and Telecoms (TMT)
  • Covers the entire TMT spectrum. Work in the technology sub-sector includes areas such as managed services, software, high tech, FinTech, cyber security, crypto and blockchain, digital identity and authentication as well as emerging areas like the metaverse.In Telecoms and Infrastructure, the focus is on operators (fixed, mobile, converged, satellite), service providers, alt nets, data centres, mobile towers as well as technology vendors and equipment providers. In media, work includes areas such as MarTech andadvertising as well as content providers and creators. We focus on understanding the impact of new technologies and how they affect business models and consumer and business behaviours
Industrial products, Technology & Services - (IPTS)
  • A broad-ranging sector covering a variety of segments and business models in diverse sub-sectors including automotive, aerospace and defence, clean technology/energy transition and packaging
You’ll have the opportunity to work with the wider M&A team to grow your strategy consulting and M&A skillset, and gain hands on exposure to new business pitches and presentations. Through a combination of on-the-job and formal training and dedicated mentorship,you’ll quickly become a market expert in multiple areas with the opportunity to further specialise as you progress.In common with other strategy consulting programmes, there is no professional qualification included in this programme, although extensive classroom and on-the-job training is provided.Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct primary (including expert interviews/discussions) and secondary research
  • Conduct deep dive analysis into company markets, identify growth opportunities and building models in terms of responsibilities
  • Analyse complex data to identify risks and provide insights for clients
  • Synthesise results to identify patterns and anomalies in underlying data
  • Work with senior team members to develop hypotheses and drive analysis to test and prove (or disprove) hypotheses
  • Contribute to business development- identifying opportunities for growth
  • Support more senior members of the team to construct reports
  • Contribute to ground-breaking thought leadership at the cutting edge of new markets, new technologies and new business models
  • Work with other S&CDD sector teams and the wider BDO M&A team and other functions within BDO to win and deliver assignments across different service lines
