Job Description

BTEC Higher Nationals 4-7 - Construction and the Built Environment - Senior External ExaminerReference: 2022/HNCON/SEEClosing date: 23 November 2022 at midnightHigher National Senior Standards ExaminerA BTEC Higher National Senior Standards Examiner will be the responsible expert interms of specification interpretation and External Examiner standardisation for arange of programmes within a PSA across BTEC Higher Nationals. To monitorassessment and internal verification for a range of programmes within a PrincipalSubject Area (PSA) in order to report on national standards across centres.Responsibilities

  • Sample assessment and internal verification decisions in order to report that
national standards are maintained
  • Hold subject specific responsibility for assessment advice and standards
interpretation
  • Offer specialist advice and support to centres and External Examiners (EE)
in relation to the content and interpretation of specifications, assessmentand delivery
  • Provide sampling-related support and development to EEs
  • Review EE reports to comment on the maintenance of national standards
  • Identify and escalate issues of adverse standards interpretation
  • Undertake a proactive role in maintaining national standards
  • Edit materials for the standardisation of centre assessors, internal verifiers and
lead internal verifiers and centre training as required
  • Develop the content for the training and standardisation of EEs
  • Lead and deliver training events to centres and EEs as required
  • Performance Manage a range of Team Leaders across the PSA providing advice
and guidance where applicable as well as carrying out reports on each throughthe year. You will also be required to complete a Summative report for each STLin your team and grade them on their performance. Alongside this you willsupport your team of STLs as they monitor and manage their teams of TLs.
  • Produce an end of year report within the parameters of a defined template in
order to comment on national standards
  • Report back to Pearson within agreed service-level agreements
  • Contribute to Pearsons Ask the Expert service
  • Represent Higher National Quality & Assessment or as required
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the work of Higher National
Quality & Assessment in relation to this roleExperience/qualifications needed
  • Substantial recent experience in assessment and verification of Higher Nationals
within the sector
  • Significant experience in delivering and assessing vocational qualifications
  • Higher level assessment and delivery experience across a range of
qualifications
  • Be an A or B Grade Associate (from BTEC Higher National EE monitoring)
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the field of
assessment and delivery of vocational qualifications within thesectorCompetencies required
  • A clear understanding of the educational landscape and regulatory requirements
for qualifications within the BTEC Higher National suite
  • Detailed knowledge of the specifications that comprise the area of expertise for
the role
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to edit materials to ensure they are grammatically correct and fit for
purpose
  • Excellent communication, written, verbal, IT and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand the implications of decisions taken on Pearsons behalf and
not to operate outside the sphere of responsibility defined within this jobdescription
  • Demonstrable people management skills

workload for the sector, in any given year
