Job Description

The 18-month Paediatric Rotation Programme is open for newly qualified paediatric nurses. It will provide you with a solid foundation in the skills and fundamental principles of paediatric cardio-respiratory nursing.The rotation encompasses Paediatric cardio-respiratory Ward (Rose Ward), Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) and Paediatric Intensive Care (PICU).- You will start your programme on Rose Ward where you can have contact not only with the ward layout but also how patient care interlinks with Day Case, Sleep Lab, Cardiac Specialist Nurses and Outpatients. How to do a Pre-Admission, to be able to watch a surgical case and to be involved in organising Complex Discharge to the community.- You will then be rotating to PHDU where you will have the opportunity to progress the patient from an intensive to high dependency setting or to manage a deteriorating patient and escalate concerns. If you haven’t had critical care experience this will be a change to build on your critical care skills. During this period you will have also the opportunity to develop/progress your skills on Tracheostomy care / NIV (Non Invasive Ventilation) / Organising Complex Discharge to the Ward.- The final part of the programme will be rotating to PICU where you will be given the opportunity to learn how to manage a stable ventilated patient, develop your advanced critical care skills and knowledge throughout this period. Intensive care will also provide contact with invasive monitoring, inotropic support and post-operative cases management.The programme provides a generous protected orientation and a structured curriculum facilitated by experienced preceptors. It is coordinated by a dedicated clinical nurse educator that tailors the programme to meet your individual learning needs.
