By providing expertise and insight, we support our members, partners and stakeholdersas they prepare the UK for what comes next in a constantly changing world.Role PurposetechUKs Associate Director for Climate, Environment and Sustainability is responsible for techUKs strategic response to climate and environmental challenges.The team coversone of the most innovative and fast-moving policy areas in the UK and internationally. It focuses not only on the sustainability impacts of the tech sector itself, but the ability of digital technology in supporting the net zero transition of other sectors.Thismeans working to both respond to the needs of members - briefing and advising them of policy changes and market developments - and the demands of UK government and its agencies, to help them design, deliver and evaluate policies in areas such as net zero,energy efficiency, sustainable chemistry, circular economy, and resource management.It also requires engagement with adjacent sectors, supply chain actors, government, and its agencies, to support the integration of digital solutions in sectors net zero transitions,with a particular focus on energy, mobility, cities and in using digital twins.You will be a focal point for sustainability for all techUKs 20 programmes to help ensure we are consistent with our messaging on climate, and to ensure we deliver content withintegrity and rigor.In addition, youll be managing techUKs work on wider business responsibility issues, such as responsible sourcing, modern slavery and ESG reporting, product safety, among other topics.The role will require you to deliver against a rangeof financial and performance targets (including membership growth and retention, income management and the management and development of a team of talented professionals) and to manage a complex workload with competing demands.Key responsibilities CoordinatetechUKs work on climate change and sustainability issues, working across programmes and functions to ensure a high level of integrity, consistency, and rigor. Be accountable for the development and delivery of a strategically aligned annual plan that reflectsthe priorities and needs of members. Build and maintain strong relationships with members, industry partners, civil society, government, media and think tanks. Monitor, evaluate and respond to climate and environmental policy developments that impact the businesspractices and policies of our membership, working with members and leveraging cross sectoral partnerships to grow the influence and reach of techUK. Oversee the publication of reports, thought leadership, newsletters and briefings and the organisation of aseries of events and activities in support of the annual plan. Contribute to raising the profile of our expertise with key influencers and represent techUK externally on government forums, in industry groups, and on the external stage in conferences, eventsand with the media. Develop, coach, provide leadership and support junior staff so they can reach their full potential.CompetenciesA self-motivated individual who is comfortable leading several projects An effective and motivational manager A team player whois comfortable and able to work with relevant teams across techUK Strong interpersonal skills A networker, with an understanding of how to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of people and organisations A can-do approach and comfortable workingin a high pressure, fast paced environment with competing demands Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to get to grips with complex technical information and communicate this effectively to a range of audiences Able to articulate,explain and sell the benefits of techUK to a range of audiences from government to potential new membersPerson SpecificationEssential Knowledge and Experience Demonstrates a strong understanding of sustainability policy, the environmental challenges facedby the tech sector, and the ability to use digital technologies to also support sustainable outcomes Strong knowledge of public affairs and can demonstrate successful public policy outcomes through the adoption of public affairs strategies Has a proven trackrecord and experience of managing complex relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders Comfortable with and has experience of working with board level executivesDesired Knowledge and Experience Interest in digital transformation/technology/public policyStrong interest in the UK tech sector and our mission to make the UK good for tech, make tech good for the UK and make tech good for people and the planet Has a proven track record of managing events (dinners, breakfast briefings, seminars and so on) ensuringaccuracy and attention to detail.The role reports into the Director of Markets and has overall responsibility for four members of staff.
