Job Description

Purpose of PositionThe Cloud Ops Engineer would be a member of the CloudOps Team. That team acts as the guard rails for other teams in technology, allowing them to exploit cloud (Azure) technology most appropriate for their area, whilst minimising risk to production services.The CloudOps team are there to ensure that cloud resources and infrastructure are being configured correctly in order to stay compliant with the various regulatory and audit policies. As well as this, they ensure that cloud technology is being consumed withinthe agreed budgets.The CloudOps Engineer will play a key role in configuring networking within Azure, so must have a solid understanding of technologies such as VNet, VNet Peering, Site-to-site VPN and NSGs. As well as organizational design in Azure, using Management Groups,Subscription and Resource Groups. Adherence to defined policies will need to be managed using products such as Azure Policy.The role will also be responsible for supporting and maintaining the more traditional infrastructure, such as Meraki LAN & SD-WAN networking, Intune MDM, Exchange Online and AVD administration.In order to be successful in the role, the CloudOps Engineer must demonstrate a ‘self starter’ attitude and be prepared to propose solutions to complex problems, using an ‘automation first’ mindset.The nature of supporting business critical infrastructure, means that there will be a requirement to work unsocial hours when requested and take responsibility for ensuring that customer satisfaction is always maintained.The Engineer may also be required to provide directed support and service for other Pantheon offices around the world.Key Responsibilities

  • Use appropriate tooling to ensure that cloud applications and platforms are being configured within the parameters required to stay compliant. Both from a regulatory, audit and policy perspective.
  • Propose and implement changes to processes using an ‘automation first’ mindset.
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes surrounding the team and technology.
  • Manage backlog of requests for cloud services, ensuring any deliverables required for projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Actively review, monitor and improve network and cloud infrastructure, undertake a regular programme of self-audit and base lining by utilising the appropriate tools.
  • Ensure changes affecting cloud infrastructure adhere to the Change Management policy.
  • Participate in “On Call” support processes.
Knowledge and Experience Required
  • Certified Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or similar level certification within Azure.
  • Working knowledge of Azure governance tools such as Azure Policy.
  • Confident in configuring organizational design in Azure, using Management Groups, Subscription and Resource Groups.
  • Experience of managing spend with Azure Cost Management and proposing ideas to optimise spend.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of configuring Azure networking concepts, such as Azure VNet, VNet Peering, Site-to-site VPN and NSGs.
  • Working knowledge of using Azure Monitor to performance of resources.
  • Demonstrable experience within Azure DevOps having supported and configured Azure Pipelines following prescribed SDLC methodologies.
  • Experience with deploying Infrastructure as Code using ARM/Terraform.
  • Experience using scripting language such as PowerShell or Bash.
  • Desire to learn new technologies.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems.
  • Sound relationship management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrable commitment to quality, service and problem management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent time management skills are essential.
  • Experience following standards and procedures and following best practice.
Beneficial Experience
  • Experience administering IaaS environments running Microsoft Server 2019/2016/2012 R2 and common desktop environments using Windows desktop operating systems such as Windows 10.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and its associated tools. (Domains & Trusts, Sites and Services, Users & Computers, Distributed File System, NTFS, DHCP & DNS etc.)
  • Knowledge of desired state configuration technologies as DSC or SCCM.
  • Experience of managing Hyper-V virtualised server infrastructure
  • Experience supporting remote access systems including Citrix, AVD and Windows Terminal Servers.
  • Working knowledge of Dynamics 365 architecture
  • Working knowledge of administering an Exchange Online estate.
  • Working knowledge of administering Intune MDM.
