Job Description

Assistant AccountantBased in London - 2/3 working from homeSalary is £27,000 - £30,000 plus study supportReporting into the Finance Manager, this Assistant Accountant role will be working within a fast paced retail environment. This role is key in VAT compliance as well as assisting the Finance team in all aspects of financial accounting and reporting, includingthe planning and controlling of the costs within the companys P&L.Main Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the VAT return submission process by completing the UK and various EU VAT returns, including Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands
  • Calculation and posting of specific period end journals (including fixed asset depreciation, prepayments and gift card/voucher revenue release) and co-ordinating with others in the team to ensure that the timetable is adhered to
  • Responsibility for all intercompany related processes, including reconciling the intercompany matrix
  • Assist in the year-end audit process, providing the auditors with all schedules and explanations that they require
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations at each period end, ensuring reconciling items are resolved on a timely basis
  • Ownership of the annual budget and quarterly rolling forecast for the company, liaising with relevant business partners to ensure the most accurate forward-looking view is obtained
  • Ad-hoc support to Financial Manager as required, including potential to increase participation in the budgeting and forecasting processes
Key skills, education and experience required:
  • ACCA/AAT Studier
  • Some experience of month end reporting processes - ideally have an interest in VAT
  • Good MS Excel skills
  • Good time-management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Solid communication skills
  • Self-starter with willingness to assume responsibility whilst working well within a team
  • Ability to challenge and improve processes and procedures
This role will suit someone who is either already in a similar role or someone who is looking for a step up and has an interest in working in a VAT heavy role. This company offer a fantastic working environment, great training and development along withhybrid working. The role is based in London, but will have 2/3 days working from home. You will be part of a large finance team with a lot of long term career progression.
