Job Description

Job Title: Accountant (2-month Contract)Location: Lambeth, LondonDaily Rate: £450We are currently recruiting for an experienced and qualified Accountant to join a local authority in Lambeth on a 2-month contract. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing technical financial advice and support to various service areas,collaborating with managers up to and including Director level.Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Advice and Support:
    • Collaborate with managers up to and including Director level.
    • Provide technical financial advice and influence decision-making.
    • Take personal responsibility for financial support to discrete business areas.
  • Financial Systems and Processes:
    • Deliver effective financial systems and processes.
    • Ensure timely reconciliations and implement necessary adjustments promptly.
  • External Collaboration:
    • Work with external financial advisers and contractors.
    • Be part of selection and appointment processes in line with procurement regulations.
  • Audit and Compliance:
    • Liaise directly with internal/external auditors on preparation and audit matters.
    • Ensure understanding and compliance with financial governance requirements.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify, monitor, and manage risks related to financial governance and compliance.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • CCAB qualified, or equivalent qualification.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Proven knowledge in at least two of the following areas.
    • Operating in a complex multidisciplinary organisation.
    • Programmes and projects.
    • Financial management.
    • People management.
  • Senior-level experience in local government budget preparation (both revenue and capital).
  • Experience providing financial advice to senior officers, members, partners, and committees.
  • Proficiency in using integrated financial systems (Oracle desirable, Oracle projects, Tec Forge, or other capital systems).
  • Good understanding of local government accounting regulations and CIPFA Codes of Practice.
  • Experience in technical revenue (essential) and capital (desirable) accounting, including closing accounts.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheets, completing financial returns, producing process documents, working papers, and dealing with colleagues and auditors.
  • Knowledge of balance sheet management and asset management.
