Job Description

2nd Line Support Engineer x2. £35k + 10% Bonus + Benefits Package. West London. Permanent. T6/MN/18064.During School Term Time the role will be based onsite Monday to Friday - during the holiday period the role be home based. Leading Public School (fee charging) educational provider is seeking to secure a x2 - 2ndLine Support Engineers to work within a technology-rich environment serving 220 members of staff and 700 pupils across 7 school buildings in the West London area. To supportthe 3 schools the x2- 2ndLine Support Engineers will follow a rota system - the schools are within a 6-mile radius of each other.Role:

  • Responsible for the IT function across the schools - IT support, provision and maintenance of all the schools IT systems, network, and communications infrastructure on a day-to-day basis.
  • Managing and implementing IT Infrastructure, systems and processes such as provisioning and migrating servers, OS upgrades & database implementation.
  • Managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure consisting of - Windows & Apple Servers, Virtual Servers, Storage Devices, Network Switches & Routers, Wi-Fi Network, Firewall devices, Active/Open Directory and other systems.
  • Managing end-user hardware provisioning, updates, security, connectivity, and configuration (Windows 10 / MacOS / iOS / Android). The schools are mainly using Apple devices, network and servers, knowledge of Apple devices is mandatory.
  • Supporting (as and if required by the school), business critical solutions (software & hardware) including the school MIS (iSAMS) and safeguarding solutions (CPoms) and other applications (training will be provided).
  • Providing end-user support and training regarding - IT software, systems and processes to users in-person and remotely.
  • Managing 3rd party suppliers and ensure cost efficient procurement of hardware and services.
  • Contributing to decisions on IT budgeting as well as forecasting and recommendations on IT strategy.
  • Managing licences and support contracts on hardware and software.
  • Managing, maintaining and developing IT security and compliance policies.
Technical Skills / Experience Required:
  • 2nd Line Support IT Engineer / System Administrator - demonstrable experience.
  • Desirable to have Education sector experience - experience in supporting users and pupils on daily basis.
  • End-user computing devices including - hardware & software support, installation, configuration, and deployment of Laptops, Desktops, Tablets & Smartphones.
  • Apple infrastructure and network services - MAC OS / iOS- good knowledge.
  • Microsoft 365 Administration & Email support.
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM) such as - Cisco Meraki, Jamf School & inTune - good knowledge.
  • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VMware - Windows Server background.
  • Network Device Administration - Switches, Wi-Fi devices, Network Controllers & Routers.
  • Media Audio & Visual devices (Projectors, Interactive TVs) - support knowledge.
  • Networking knowledge -TCP/IP, DNS, VLAN, VPN, SSL & IPSec.
  • Google Classroom & G Suite - support.
  • Security - Firewall, AV, Web Filters & Security policies.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Self-stater and proactive attitude.
  • Must comply with Child Safeguarding responsibilities - safeguarding policies, procedures, and code of conduct - personal commitment to safeguarding and pupil/colleague wellbeing.
Desirable:
  • VOIP Comms and other Telephony - beneficial.
  • Web Hosting - App Services, IIS, Apache, Cpanel, WordPress, Domains - preferred to have experience.
