Job Description

Experienced SEN Support Assistant Required for Specialist School in Llanelli

  • Experience working with pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
  • Additional training in ECS, Team Teach and/or Moving and Handing desirabletraining can be provided
  • Excellent communication skills
Teaching Personnel are currently working alongside a Specialist SEN School in Llanelli, who are looking to assign a Specialist SEN Assistant with the aspiration of an immediate start and opportunity to become a permanent member of staff at the school.The school caters for pupils aged 3-19 with a range of SEN which includes Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay. You will need to be the flexible individual and be prepared to work in differentareas across the school, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs. Your role will be to support pupils requiring additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication and PECS. You may alsobe required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN pupils) so training in either of these would be beneficial.As the successful candidate you will be strong minded and have high interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.The following qualifications or knowledge of the following will be highly desirable but not essential
  • Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)
  • Makaton or BSL (to any level)
  • Autism Awareness/ASC Training
  • Team Teach
  • Moving and Handling
