Job Description

Research Scientist - 6 Month Contract - Chesterford Research Park - Bioscience - Oncology This is an exciting opportunity to join the Oncology Bioscience Group in Cambridge as a laboratory-based Research Scientist. You will become part of a large team of Bioscientists, playing a vital role in the delivery of robust and high-quality in vitro datato support drug discovery projects at all stages within the Oncology portfolio. Working collaboratively with other disciplines across the business, you will have the opportunity to help drive projects forward, identifying and validating novel targets, determiningthe mechanism of action of new chemical series and understanding drug resistance and novel combination opportunities for clinical candidates. Candidates should have a background in Oncology with a strong passion for experimental work and delivering data from the laboratory. You will use your scientific judgement, ability to analyse data, lab experience and communication skills to contribute to experimentaldesign and interpretation for either early or late-stage drug discovery programmes.Main Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality in vitro data according to the study plan as agreed with the team leader or project supervisor
  • Provide expert interpretation of experimental data, identifying innovative solutions to problems and putting forward plans for further experiments
  • Communicate experimental data and key findings in a clear and concise manner to project teams
  • Generate and maintain clear electronic experimental records
  • Maintain an awareness of current developments in the literature to support projects, bring forward new target ideas or new technologies / assay methods
  • Actively drive personal development within Oncology Bioscience, independently identifying opportunities where relevant.
Essential Requirements:
  • Degree in cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology or a related field and/or 2-3 years equivalent relevant laboratory experience
  • Evidence of strong technical and experimental ability to deliver data from the lab
  • Expertise in mammalian cell line tissue culture techniques including cell line maintenance, transfection, transduction
  • Expertise in a range of in vitro cell based & mechanistic techniques and assays including cellular proliferation and survival assays, flow cytometry and high-content imaging
  • Expertise in a range of molecular biological techniques including molecular cloning, isolation and analysis of nucleic acids and proteins
  • Passion for experimental work with a desire to pursue a career from the lab
  • Excellent understanding of cancer cell biology
Desirable Requirements:
  • Lab-based drug discovery experience in academic or pharmaceutical company setting
  • CRISPR gene editing and stable cell line generation
  • An understanding of the drug discovery process
  • Experience of analysing large data sets
