Job Description

Job Description Summary We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Product Manager - M&D Systems, reporting to the Product Line Leader for Monitoring & Diagnostics (M&D), within Grid Automation (GA). Acting as GE M&Ds resident domain expert on Monitoring Systems for electrical substation assets, you will be responsible for developing a holistic vision for current and future M&D Monitoring System solutions, working collaboratively across all business functions. Your initial primary focus and responsibility will be in the area of Transformer Monitoring Systems (TMS), working transversally with other product management and engineering colleagues responsible for existing M&D system and sub-component products which are at different stages in their lifecycle curve. Leading a shared technical roadmap you will aim to achieve maximum internal GE operational efficiencies, establish required system feature and performance levels, and ultimately ensure a compelling future TMS strategy which delivers commercial growth.Job DescriptionEssential Responsibilities

  • Understand industry M&D trends, market dynamics, standards/regulatory developments, customer needs and competitive landscape, including maintaining competitive analysis
  • Develop and execute MGPP road mapping actions for your product portfolio in line with the overall M&D strategy, including product development and commercialization through the NPI process, launch plan and targeted customer penetration strategies
  • Act as GEs technical thought leader for features and architecture of TMS and other substation asset Monitoring System platforms. Where applicable work across the M&D team and with peers in wider GA product line teams to develop transversal solutions
  • Liaise with technical teams to: fully capture all customer product requirements; track and manage customer product changes/amendments; oversee product testing lifecycle
  • Work across business functions to maintain the quality, technical and margin competitiveness of your product portfolio
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and with external customers to ensure compelling offerings, effective deliveries and customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible for product portfolio growth by supporting global go to market strategies, channels, sales and service team training and guidance
  • Positively influence portfolio profitability (CM%) via cost management actions and pricing strategies
  • Participate in bidding strategy for key specific opportunities
  • Ensure tracking and co-ordination of activities with other business functions, including product management, R&D, sourcing, manufacturing, finance and quality
    • Qualifications / Requirements
  • Degree level or above in Electrical/Electronic Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. Applicants from other Engineering disciplines may also be considered provided the degree or higher qualification includes significant levels of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or subsequent other qualifications in Electrical/Electronic Engineering can be illustrated
  • 5+ years product and/or engineering management experience working across multidisciplinary teams in a global setting
  • 5+ years experience working in the areas of TMS and/or other types of Monitoring Systems for electrical substation equipment
  • Strong technical capability and curiosity to challenge other team members and lead/contribute to system design decisions
  • Familiarity with computing technology, cyber security, analogue and digital I/O and communication protocols such as IEC61850, IEC 103, Modbus, DNP3.0, TCP/IP, Ethernet
  • Works effectively across functions, with ability to motivate, coach & inspire others
  • Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, including fluency in English
  • Customer focused, enthusiastic and proactive. Can demonstrate strong commercial awareness combined with excellent technical expertise
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Existing, relevant people management responsibility
    • Desired Characteristics
  • Masters Degree or PHD from an accredited college or university
  • Product and/or business leadership experience with responsibility for financial performance and strategic planning
  • German language skills also advantageous
  • Experience in LEAN, Six Sigma and/or Change Management
  • Past experience in utilizing voice of customer tools such as Blueprinting, MVPs and in the wider Fastworks methodology
