Job Description

Waste Site Manager

  • Job Type: Contract (6 months with potential for extension)
  • Location: Various sites including Recycling and Household Waste Sites (RHWS), Waste Transfer Stations (WTS), and occasional work from County Hall
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Working Hours: 37 to 40 hours per week across 7 days, including mandatory weekend work (minimum 1 in 3 weekends)
We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Waste Site Manager to oversee the Council’s waste sites. This field-based role involves managing site staff, ensuring compliance with environmental permits, and maintaining high standards of safety and operations.The successful candidate will have a strong background in waste management and employee supervision. Day to Day of the role:
  • Travel to RHWSs and WTSs daily to manage site operations and staff.
  • Conduct HR-related tasks including onboarding, performance reviews, and policy implementation.
  • Deliver training through workbooks, e-learning support, and safety briefings.
  • Monitor and enforce safe systems of work and risk assessments.
  • Ensure accurate records for waste movements and compliance with environmental permits.
  • Manage stock control of consumables, PPE, equipment, and fuel.
  • Occasionally drive a Council 3.5 tonne box van.
  • Handle customer complaints through various communication channels.
  • Wear PPE and potentially a Body Worn Camera as part of the uniform.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proficient IT skills with MS Office or equivalent packages.
  • Strong interpersonal, numeracy, and literacy skills.
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Proven background in contract management and supervision in waste management or similar industries.
  • Experience in delivering training packages.
  • Valid UK driver’s licence for up to a 3.5 tonne vehicle, access to own vehicle, and business use insurance coverage.
  • Desirable: Certificate of Technical Competence in waste management.
