Senior Science Technician / School Laboratory Assistant with previous experience in a similar Lab Technician role within a school/college environment and detailed knowledge of Health, Safety, COSHH and ESCC regulations is required for aSchools Trust, based in Leicester, Leicestershire, East Midlands.Whether you are a Senior Science Technician looking for a new opportunity or a Science Technician looking to take the next step in your career, we’d like to hear from you.SALARY: £28,565 - £30,390 FTE / £19,798 - £21,063 Actual SalaryLOCATION: Leicester, Leicestershire, East Midlands(LE5)JOB TYPE: Part-Time, Fixed Term Contract until July 2025WORKING HOURS: 32.5 hours per week, Term Time onlyJOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Science Technician / School Laboratory Assistantwith previous experience in a similar Lab Technician role within a school/college environment and detailed knowledge of Health, Safety, COSHH and ESCC regulations.As the Senior Science Technician / School Laboratory Assistant organise, deliver and develop technical and practical support to the school science laboratories.The Senior Science Technician / School Laboratory Assistant will manage the work and training of a science technician, assist Class Teachers in identifying technical support needed, and ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment,promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people at all times.DUTIESYour duties and responsibilities as the Senior Science Technician / School Laboratory Assistant will include:

  • Take lead responsibility for making sure that guidelines are provided and followed in relation to the preparation and setting out of experiments, scientific and audio-visual equipment, chemicals, specimens etc. for laboratory use (this includes moving itemsbetween laboratories where necessary)
  • Contribute to the design, development and maintenance of specialist resources and or long term projects and offer professional guidance, assistance and support to pupils and teachers on the practical aspects of the curriculum where necessary in practicalexperiments
  • Invigilating exams where necessary
  • Be responsible for administering first aid in laboratory if required (must hold first aid certificate or be prepared to train for certificate)
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience within a school / college environment
  • NVQ3 in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities (LATA) or NVQ3 for Laboratory Technicians in Education or Level 3 Certificate in Laboratory Technical Skills or equivalent would be an advantage
  • Certification of relevant health and safety training or a willingness to attend appropriate Health and Safety training
  • Detailed knowledge of health, safety and COSHH and ESCC regulations and other relevant legislation in relation to safe handling and storage of chemicals
  • Ability to offer professional guidance and assistance to pupils and teachers
  • Ability to carry out risk assessments in relation to laboratory work
  • Ability to prepare equipment and materials for lessons as requested by teaching staff
  • Ability to be flexible and respond effectively to the unexpected’
  • Displays commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people
  • Good level of accuracy and detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to manage own workloads and the workload of others, if applicable
