Job Description

ICP-OES / ICP-MS AnalystReporting to: Laboratory ManagerPrimary Role:To undertake the day-to-day preparation, analysis and testing activities within the ICP Laboratory and associated areas as well as to ensure that the Quality System as defined in the organisations quality manual is implemented and followed.Qualifications and Experience:The holder of the position of Analyst should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience performing acid extractions and operating ICP instruments.The successful candidate will preferably hold a relevant degree level qualification but relevant previous technical work experience is also acceptable. Prior experience of ISO17025 is highly desirable, however, specific laboratory training will be conductedin house to give the required working knowledge of the organisation’s Quality Systems and develop a sound scientific understanding and overview of their testing services.The general duties and responsibilities of the role shall include, but not be limited to the following:Main Tasks

  • To abide by the policies and procedures and supporting documentation at all times in order to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certification.
  • Conducting method validation and processing of data obtained.
  • To assist the Laboratory Manager(s) in their roles by following instructions for the dayto-day operation of the laboratory.
  • To conduct sample preparation and analysis as required in accordance with documented Test Methods and Laboratory Procedures.
  • To record data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) including analytical and quality control (AQC) results. All AQC results including failures shall be recorded in accordance within the companies quality management requirements.
  • To prepare, analyse, record and monitor AQCs in accordance with the requirements of individual Test Methods and Laboratory Procedures as well as liaising with the Laboratory Manager(s) to implement appropriate measures when out-of-control- or out-of-statistical-control-situationsare encountered.
  • To analyse Proficiency Testing Scheme samples in accordance with the Scheme instructions and report results to LIMS in a timely manner to ensure that submission deadlines are met.
  • To provide in a timely manner, all supporting data (raw data, chromatograms, integrations etc) required for Proficiency Testing Investigations if PT outliers (z > ±2.0) occur.
Job Description
  • To check all data thoroughly and ensure that all acceptance criteria as specified in individual methods have been met before reporting test results.
  • Responsible for preparation, labelling and recording of standards and reagents and for calibration of instrumentation as per documented Test Methods and Laboratory Procedures.
  • To monitor job lists on the LIMS and to ensure analyses are completed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for operation and control of laboratory equipment and instruments as required, including basic maintenance and cleaning.
  • To ensure that sample handling and storage procedures are followed.
  • To monitor stock levels of chemicals and consumables and to inform the Purchasing department of any shortages in a timely manner.
  • To ensure personal training records are maintained up to date.
  • To keep confidential all information obtained or created during the performance of Laboratory activities (except as required by law) and abide by the policies and procedures set out and all supporting documentation.
  • To carry out all Laboratory activities with Impartiality and not allow commercial, financial, personal or other pressures to compromise impartiality. To notify management of any instances where a potential conflict of interest is encountered.
  • To consider the Risks associated with all Laboratory activities undertaken and raise any Risks identified in accordance with the Risk and Opportunities procedure in order to minimise threats and maximise Opportunities for Improvement.
  • To maintain records and backup electronic data in accordance with the companies documented policies and procedures to ensure the full traceability of all Tests carried out.
  • To ensure that all operations are carried out safely and that the laboratory housekeeping is maintained to an acceptable and safe standard.
