Job Description

Our client HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is an agency of the Ministry of Justice. HMCTS provides administrative support for the legal system across England and Wales, ensuring justice works for everyone.Our justice system defends our fundamental rights and freedoms. From some of the most vulnerable people in our society, to families in crisis, claimantsand commercial businesses - HMCTS has a responsibility to administer a justice system that is accessible to everyone and operates efficiently.Court UsherWe are currently recruiting for a Court Usher to work with one of our fantastic Public Sector clients in Leicester City Centre.This a 3 month temporary position initially but one in which you would be able to gain valuable exposure/experience working within the Public Sector.If you have worked within the public sector before this would be advantageous but not essential. If you have transferable experience, then we would love to hear from you.The Court Usher acts as an essential first point of contact for all the court users involved in hearings.There will be regular contact with the judiciary, assisting the administrative staff with the smooth flow of court work. You will meet members of the public and their legal representatives; prepare court/ hearing rooms, and complete documentation, as well asensuring the court runs smoothly and efficiently. You will also carry out some general clerical work as required to support the work of HMCTSKey Responsibilities to include:Handling counter (face to face), written and telephone enquiriesTo work as a team to ensure TIB (Team Information Board) meetings are relevant, timely and productiveProducing court/tribunal documentsGeneral photocopying and filingTo deliver a helpful, prompt, polite and "right first time" service to our internal and external customersOperating Office and court equipmentResulting, checking accuracy and completeness against guidelines or a proforma, e.g. issuing jury paymentsPreparing rooms for hearings, tribunals, trials, meetings and clearing the court / hearing room down at the end of the dayCandidate requirements:Have previous experience within an administration role (preferable)Have good IT skillsBe able to remain calm under pressureBe a confident speakerBe able to work with very confidential and sensitive informationBe able to provide 3 years of referencing and pass a enhanced DBS checkStandard hours are 37 hours, Monday - Friday (Between the hours of 8.30am to 5.30pm)Pay rate of £10.95 per hour which is paid weeklyLeicester Crown Court (Occasionally Loughborough Courts, Leicester Mag Court & Leicester County Court)If you feel that this role is one that would interest you and you have the right attributes, then please apply online.At Brook Street, we believe that by harnessing diversity of thought and experience across our company, exceptional things happen.
