Job Description

Apprentice Fire and Security Service EngineerAre you ready to start your engineering career in the fire and security industry At Johnson Controls, were on the hunt for enthusiastic individuals to join our dynamic Fire and Security team. By joining the Johnson Controls team as an Apprentice fire andsecurity engineer youll be joining global leader in engineering and integrated solutions.You’ll work with innovative technology and solutions in the Fire & Security sector. Youll learn hands-on, installing, maintaining, and understanding fire and security systems that protect individuals and businesses.   • Dive into the world of Fire and Security Engineering, you will be servicing, commissioning, and maintaining fire and security systems that safeguard individuals, homes, and properties.
  • Learn the ins and outs of our fire and security systems including intrusion detection, CCTV and access control systems.
  • On-the-Job Work Experience: Youll spend significant time at our client sites, where youll be tasked with servicing and repairing fire and security equipment. This hands-on experience will provide you with valuable insight into the world of fire and securityengineering.
  • Collaboration with Qualified Engineers: Throughout your apprenticeship, youll work closely with qualified Johnson Controls Engineers who will serve as mentors, guiding you in developing your engineering skills. This collaborative environment ensures thatyou receive the support and guidance needed to succeed in your role.
  • This is a field-based covering the Leicester, Sheffield and Barnsley areas. Further travel may be required as necessary. You will travel from home each morning to our clients site as necessary.
  • Opportunities for Growth: Throughout your apprenticeship, youll have the opportunity to grow and apply the skills and knowledge gained in college in a real workplace setting. This experiential learning approach ensures that you develop both technical competenciesand practical skills essential for success in the Fire and Security Field.
  • On-the-job training will be provided working closely with our experienced Fire & Security engineers, many of these engineers have also been through our apprenticeship scheme so they are the perfect mentors to guide you through the apprenticeship.

Training and Qualifications:
  • College Attendance: Youll attend college in Banham academy on block release basis, this structured education component will complement your on-the-job training, providing you with comprehensive knowledge of Fire and Security Engineering.
  • Travel and Accommodation: If youre required to stay away from home for college or work-related purposes, the company will cover the costs of travel, accommodation, and meals. This ensures that you can focus on your education and training without financialburden.
Career Progression:
  • Upon completion, several internal opportunities within the company will be available to you. All of our apprentices immediately move into full time permanent engineering positions.
  • Previous apprentices have become lead engineers, managing their own teams and projects.
Qualifications Required:
  • GCSE or equivalent in English (Grade 5)
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths (Grade 5)
  • Full Driving License is essential.

  • Availability to travel regularly as this is a field-based role.

What happens next
  • Suitable candidates will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position and provide necessary documentation. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre in May, assessment centres typically include a combination of activitiessuch as group problem-solving tasks, individual interviews, and presentations.
  • Within 48 hours of the assessment centre, candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can begin the apprenticeship on September 2, 2024.
