Job Description

Community Health Development CoordinatorWe are seeking an experienced community development worker who is brave to try new things and to empower others to recognise their own strengths. This a great opportunity to join a fantastic organisation that is constantly growing and achieving.Position Community Health Development CoordinatorLocation: Cross Green, LeedsHours: 35 hours per weekSalary: £27,412.50 per annumContract: Initial 12-month contract with the possibility to extendBenefits: Generous Annual Leave, 14 Bank Holidays Annually, Special Leave and Flexible Working Policies, Employee Assistance Scheme with Health Assured, up to 5% match pension contributions, Free Parking, Bike Parking and a 15-minute walk from thecity centre.Closing Date: Thursday 24th November 2023The RoleWithin the role as a coordinator, you will be expected to recognise the challenges and inequalities the community is facing. The role aims to support Gypsy and Traveller communities to improve health and well-being by provision of good quality and accessibleinformation, signposting, short interventions, courses, volunteering and campaigns. The work will be co-designed and delivered with our community members and in partnership with local services such as Public Health. It will embed principles such as the MakingEvery Contact Count and Asset Based Community Development to encourage community led change around health and well-being.The aim of the role is to be able to identify when and how to work closely with other staff members within the team and external services to ensure delivery of work is to the highest standard for our members. This will mean that great partnership workingis taking place throughout the work being delivered.Key responsibilities include:

  • To build good relationships with members, listening to their concerns and being available to talk about challenges they face.
  • To support community members to access appropriate support, including referrals to other services.
  • To support increased participation of Gypsy & Traveller people throughout the organisation.
  • To deliver community conversations about healthy lifestyles, signpost and refer to relevant health and well-being services.
  • To deliver weekly outreach to members in their homes including houses, local authority sites, roadside encampments, and community events to promote the service.
  • To co-produce with our members campaigns on key health themes based on person centred conversations.
  • To manage and coordinate health campaigns on social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp groups.
About YouThis role will require skills to be able to engage community members and help them feel involved within planning and delivering different activities and projects that will benefit themselves and their community. The work will need to be ensured that it fitsthe needs of the community and should be developed in a way that it can be tailored to current needs as and when required.You will be able to manage and develop different projects and be able to prioritise these accordingly to be able to identify when and how to best deliver these to ensure that they are accessible for all. You will be required to motivate community membersand create opportunities that will enable them to improve their skills and experience various things.Essential criteria for this role include:
  • English GCSE Equivalent
  • Maths GCSE Equivalent
  • Experience in coordinating campaigns or similar in a health/wider determinants of health context
  • Experience working in partnership with other agencies
  • Experience working with Gypsy and Traveller communities or other marginalised groups
  • Experience in case management, recording information and producing monitoring reports
  • Experience in organising and delivering group activities and planning projects
  • Experience working with people in a community development or supportive role
  • Experience in supervising staff or volunteers
  • Able to engage and involve our members in all aspects of your work
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills - able to manage diaries and plan activities
  • To be confident in working independently whilst delivering outreach support
Ideally, you will be a car driver with a valid driving licence as the role may include meeting members, partners or external services in other venues in Leeds.The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive and supportive induction.
