Job Description

nmcn work in partnership and collaboration with our customers, to deliver major built environment and critical national infrastructure projects across the UK. Our specialist engineering and construction teams bring multi-sector innovation and technical skill – from building and highways, to large-scale water networks and treatment plants.Our Telecoms business provides the management and delivery of national and regional network infrastructure to major communications providers. This includes installations, improvements, repairs and 24-hour emergency response networks to high speed fibre networks. We apply our expertise at each stage of the project lifecycle to ensure smooth delivery to our customers and clients.An opportunity has arisen for experienced Team Leaders and Operatives to work for our Telecoms Division as part of our Virgin Media framework. With effective team management, you and your team will undertake excavations including the laying of Virgin Media ducts (including roping) and construction of boxes in the public highway.What you’ll be doing day to day

  • To undertake work on behalf of North Midland Group/Virgin Media in a sustainable, safe, timely and cost effective manner.
  • At all times, ensure the safety of yourself and others affected by your work.
  • Only carry out work for which you are trained and competent and cease work where procedures cannot be followed.
  • Ensure quality of workmanship meets minimum standards and complies with Companies/Client Health & Safety policy and practices.
  • To communicate effectively with all staff Supervisors/administration and management personnel
  • To ensure accurate information/paperwork is submitted as directed in a timely manner.
  • Consider current and next phase of work and be pro-active to ensure that you are able to complete all your planned work in a safe, efficient and organised manner.
  • Undertake Duct work & Construction of boxes as directed to deliver the planned programme of work.
  • Be aware of your planned NRSWA noticing date(s) timescales, to ensure your works are completed in time as not to incur any fines from the local authority.
  • Overall management of the construction site(s), including operatives, site visitors and general public at all times.
  • Attend safety briefings, training, consultation meetings and health surveillance when required
  • If directed, follow up any remedial work (as necessary) in an accurate and timely manner
  • Liaise with affected customers and build rapport and communicate with these to minimise complaints and disruption.
  • Use only approved equipment, in the correct manner and protect and trace all utilities within your works area and ensure the safety and health of yourself and others.
  • Report and / or record all accidents, incidents, environmental events (aspects and impacts), damages, near misses and illnesses, and co-operate with site inspections and investigations.
  • Comply with all Health, Safety, Engineering & Environmental requirements relevant to your duties and responsibilities, and ensure the safety of yourself and others
  • Ensure completion of accurate paperwork, including submission of tracksheets and relevant records in a timely manner and ensure copies are retained as appropriate
  • The experience we’re looking for in a candidate
  • Team Leader/Operative role experience
  • Driving Licence and able to tow (Minimum BE on Licence) – ideally able to drive up to 7 1/2t
  • Extensive experience and qualification to operate either or all of the following: Tracked excavators from 1.5 to 10 tons, dumpers up to 5 tons, (minimum qualification CPCS/NPORS)
  • Streetworks certificate (NRSWA – Yellow Card for Operatives)
  • Working on New Build Sites – Ideally hold a CSCS Card
  • Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised
  • Good inter-personal and communication skills
  • Self-reliant, confident and highly motivated
  • Honest, dependable and trustworthy
  • Able to operate electronic Tablets/PDA’s (training will be given)
