Job Description

Overview:Our client is looking for an Income Officer to provide a coordinated, flexible and effective income collection service that maximises income. The post holder is responsible for achieving and maintaining lowest possible levels of current rent and former tenancyarrears and for ensuring we maximise income recovery and meet arrears targets.

Job specification:
  • Effectively reduce all accounts in arrears to meet monthly individual and team targets. This will include producing arrears reports and letters, communicating with residents and drafting instructions for legal possession proceedings, serving Notices, homevisits, applying for direct payments, attending court where required and providing appropriate advice and support to residents to enable them to sustain their tenancies.
  • To work effectively and efficiently, planning your own workload to ensure accounts are monitored on a weekly basis.
  • To ensure excellent customer service standards are achieved and core business objectives and performance indicators are met.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with Housing Benefit Departments, 3rd party support and advice agencies and County Courts to assist with income collection and debt prevention.
  • Effective use of IT equipment and software including housing and property management software to ensure that recording keeping is up to date and all recovery actions and correspondence are recorded on the appropriately.
  • To monitor, track and report performance trends and provide associated analysis as required.
  • Identify residents requiring specialist welfare benefit and financial inclusion advice and make referrals to the Welfare Benefit Officer.
  • To manage, collect and recover debt from former tenant arrears and non-rent charges.
  • Identify where improvements can be made and with colleagues to achieve organisational priorities and priority services.
  • Meet your own and your team’s annual objectives.
Person specification:
  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a Housing Association or Local Authority
  • Experience of income management, including attending court.
  • Experience of working with or supporting vulnerable people using a person-centred approach.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Housing and Welfare Reform Legislation
  • Experience of performance analysis, reporting and performance improvement.
  • Ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
