Job Description

Job Title: Principal Mechanical EngineerJob Type: Permanent Salary: up to £70K DOELocation: Leamington Spa, WarwickshireIndustry: Energy & PowerPremier Engineering has engaged with a key client and a world leader in low carbon power generation technologies, a very innovative and future thinking business. Due to an increase in new projects and team growth a new opportunity has arisen for a PrincipalMechanical Engineer to join on a permanent basis.Principal Mechanical EngineerAn opportunity has arisen to join the Senior Mechanical Engineering Team as we design the latest power generation technology and transition to a low-carbon future. We are looking to recruit an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to support the businessin delivering the current and future technologies.This role would suit a candidate with a proven track-record of delivering high quality engineering solutions and is an innovative problem solver. The applicant should have a broad range of engineering experience but keen to develop their knowledge further.Must be team player but able to work independently and thrives in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.What youll get from us:

What youll deliver to us:
  • Verification of both Mechanical Design and Analysis output across the entirety of the Mechanical Engineering Department e.g. 3D/2D design, FEA, CFD, hand calculations
  • Develop, author, and review Mechanical Engineering ways of working, specifications, best practice, and compliance documentation
  • Drive collaboration between the design and analysis teams to ensure targets are achieved
  • Continuous professional development in relevant technical disciplines
  • Adherence to Company policies, Quality, HR etc.
  • Promote a culture of safe and efficient working
  • Chair the Design Review Process where required, both in terms of Engineering Change and New Product Implementation
  • Mentor Senior Design and Analysis team members to deliver Robust designs
  • Perform/verify complex thermally driven tolerance studies on bespoke designs
  • Working with key functional stakeholders to support the manufacturing deliverables
  • Working knowledge of DFMEA, 8D and other engineering problem solving tools
What were looking for:Mandatory Qualifications / Experience:
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree with a minimum grading of 2:1
  • Must have demonstrable experience in the origination, presentation, checking and validation of Engineering Analysispreferably both FEA and CFD
  • Must have a meticulous, disciplined approach and work to a high level of accuracy
  • Must have the ability to strive for technical excellence and champion best practices in a high-volume low-cost start-up type business environment where pragmatism is key
  • Must be able to work from engineering first principles where best practices and company standards are not yet available
  • Demonstrable experience in the development and nurturing of all grades of Mechanical Engineers below your own
  • Must be comfortable working independently, and able to contribute to continuous improvement by working and mentoring within the wider team
  • Capable of working in a highly dynamic environment with changing priorities
  • The candidate must have broad experience across multiple engineering subject matters, for example, rotating machinery, fluid transfer (piping systems), pneumatics, sheet metal fabrication, High temperature & stress environments, combustion, heat exchangers,air bearings or motor/generator design
  • Thorough understanding of materials selections, interactions, and metallurgy
  • Experience in using document storage and management software (PDM/PLM) systemsTeamcenter 12 is preferred although training can be provided if necessary
  • Excellent IT skills including all common MS programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel etc.
  • Appreciation of any existing CAD and CAE software which might be used to progress in an analysis-led environment, willingness to learn and understand further technologies as and when they become available

  • Meeting targets for programme timing & component costs
  • Performance and development of Mechanical Engineering Department

  • Delivery of Engineering objectives
Preferred Qualifications / Experience:
  • A strong technical background within Mechanical Engineering and Analysis
  • Achieved Chartered status with an applicable professional body
  • Experience delivering technical engineering programmes on time and within budget against challenging programme schedules
  • Experience of developing components across a broad spectrum of Technology Readiness Levels, ranging from one-off experimental components for R&D, through to production parts for high-volume manufacture
  • Previous experience in product development, including verification activities, test, instrumentation etc.
  • Experience in gas turbines, ancillary systems and heat exchangers would be highly advantageous
  • Expert in checking engineering drawings to BS8888 to drive product quality
  • Ability to operate and navigate CAD systems where requiredtraining will be provided as required
