We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Matron to join our Haematology service at Guys Hospital. As part of the Cancer & Surgery Clinical Group we care for patients with haematological cancers, sickle cell disease and other haematology diseases.The haematology Matron is part of the Directorate Senior management Team responsible for the performance of the haematology ward, ambulatory unit and outpatient services. Visible leadership is essential with the clinical aspect of the role expected to make up 40%. The Matron will work closely with other Matrons in the clinical group sharing responsibility for operational effectiveness across the clinical areas.The successful candidate will be an experienced haematology nurse. They will work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams and will be supported by the senior nursing team and consultants. The post holder will support the specialist nurses within the Directorate in developing new areas of practice, ensuring quality standards are met. We are excited to be in the process of constructing a new teenage and young adult ward/ambulatory unit and are advanced in the planning of new wards to relocate our existing adult haematology inpatients. The successful candidate will be joining us as we work up the final plans for these new areas and will be an integral part of supporting the relocation and embedding of new ways of working.The Matron will support the Head of Nursing to manage and lead our substantial team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. We are looking for someone with considerable experience at a senior level who can evidence that they have led change and achieved service improvements. Their leadership style will be collaborative and influential and they will possess the confidence and credibility to take people with them when delivering change. We will develop them and tailor their professional development to meet their career goals.Haematology experience is essential and the candidate will be a skilled individual who also is forward thinking to step up to this challenge. All candidates must be able to provide evidence of a strong commitment to the provision of quality driven, evidence based practice in order to enhance the patient experience.
