Home / Roles / Chief Executive | South Kilburn TrustLead the exciting next phase of our place-based charity and help the communities and people of South Kilburn thrive.

  • Location: Kilburn, London
  • Salary: c£80,000, depending on experience
About usThe South Kilburn Trust is an important organisation, born of and central to the regeneration of South Kilburn. Its potential is recognised by all, as an engine for community cohesion as the population grows and changes. Our role as a place-based charityis to understand and champion the needs of South Kilburn’s communities and people, provide spaces, services and support that enable them to thrive and steward our assets to serve our charitable mission.About the opportunityWe now seek a new Chief Executive to lead us through this crucial point in our development and to leverage our increase in our impact. Since 2009, we have run community events, activities and support most recently from The Granville building, alongside enterpriseand work space. We are now developing our plans to take occupation of and manage a larger community and workspace across four buildings. Our new Chief Executive will be joining us at an important moment in our Charity’s development and will work closely withstakeholders and Trustees to develop the organisational culture and capabilities that we need to succeed and sustain our impact. This brings exciting opportunities to expand what the charity does. Improving connection and understanding through engagement and social activity means that we can better focus our efforts and adjust the operating plan for our new community and workspacebuilding to meet the needs of our communities, whilst also holding financial sustainability and resilience as a key principle.About youWe are looking for someone entrepreneurial and purpose-driven to lead the charity through this next phase, whilst both engaging with and inspiring all of our stakeholders, including our communities, staff and Trustees. We want a leader who shares our values, has vision and who wants to work to build on all that we’ve achieved so far.We now seek an inclusive and enabling leader; someone who will foster the culture and capabilities required to forge a new socially impactful Trust. As a social enterprise approach is so central to our future, we welcome strong commercial acumen and provenexperience in growing and developing business opportunities or social enterprises. We also want to explore opportunities with external stakeholders that will enhance and support our community, so experience in external stakeholder engagement, profile-raising and partnership-building would be valuable. We believe that a diverse workforce with people from different backgrounds can bring fresh ideas, thinking and approaches which improve business performance, as well as reflect a diverse customer base. We, therefore, welcome candidates with a range of skills, experiences and backgrounds to find out more. For further information about the role, or to arrange a confidential discussion, please email our advising consultants at Peridot Partners to arrange a call:If you would like to know more about this role please contact Clare ChesworthThank you for your interest in becoming Chief Executive of South Kilburn Trust. Though we may be small in our area of benefit, our ambition is big. Our mission is to support people in South Kilburn to improve their lives and to make the communities herestronger, happier and healthier. We do this by providing a range of quality space, opportunities and support, principally through The Granville, our multi-purpose community and enterprise hub in the heart of South Kilburn. Our role as a place-based charity is to understand and champion the needs of South Kilburn’s communities and people. The area is changing fast (and continues to change) and the London Brough of Brent’s South Kilburn Regeneration programme has brought much-neededimprovements in housing, both in the quality of homes and the number of homes and their quality.Against this backdrop, the Trust has in recent years operated a cherished community building called The Granville where we have also managed workspace. The Trust must continue to have strong plans to steward the assets we have: our property assets, our balancesheet and to bring to life our strategy whilst ensuring financial sustainability and reducing our reliance on our own reserves and a small number of funders.2023 has been a year of reorganising and refocusing. Trustees recognise that the Charity needs to engage more meaningfully with our communities and stakeholders. Improving connection and understanding through engagement and social activity means that wecan better focus our efforts and adjust the operating plan for our new community and workspace building to meet the needs of our communities, whilst also holding financial sustainability and resilience as a key principle. The Trust is in a strong position. We have resources, a clear and defined area of benefit, and tremendous diversity amongst our communities and a new capital project in construction which will create new community space, venue hire and workspace, which willbe leased to the Trust. There is also much to do, and our environment is a relatively complex one. To succeed, the Trust needs to manage multiple stakeholder relationships, clarify and sell our purpose, achieve impact and restore trust and confidence, ensureproper financial planning, implement a trading company, effectively manage two properties and build strong operations for our new flagship centre.Whilst we don’t expect our new Chief Executive to hold skills in all of these areas, we are looking for someone who is excited by the challenge and opportunity that this role presents. We want an entrepreneurial and purpose-driven Chief Executive, able toclosely manage the range of work streams and issues, and to draw on specialist/focused advice or expertise when required. Someone who can balance the risks with the opportunities, and support Trustees to do the same. Our new Chief Executive will be joining us at an important moment in our Charity’s development and will work closely with stakeholders and Trustees to develop the organisational culture and capabilities that we need to succeed and sustain our impact. If this has piqued your interest and you are looking for a fulfilling role in a purposeful, locally-focused charity, then we’d love to hear from you.Peter BrownChair of TrusteesFor further information about the role, or to arrange a confidential discussion, please email our advising consultants at Peridot Partners to arrange a call: The South Kilburn Trust is the leading local charity that works wi
