Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Head Chef whos passionate about food and wants to make a difference as part of a crucial catering team.Youll be working40 hours a week managing a team who are responsible for creating an excellent experience for the people in our care at Cygnet Kewstoke.Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke provides an emergency admissions servicefor men and a pathway for women from low secure to rehabilitation including a specialist servicefor personality disorder.The hospital has more than 16 acres of landscaped grounds and overlooks the Bristol Channel.   • Prepare, cook & serve nutritional, balanced and appetising meals
  • Comply with the requirements for checking and recording the critical control points in food preparation, in accordance with Cygnet Procedures, including keeping comprehensive records of checks for subsequent inspection.
  • Maintain and monitor adequate stocks of catering supplies, using the agreed supplier list.
  • Monitor monthly expenditure against budget targets in conjunction with the Hospital Manager / General Manager and take action to remedy overspend.
  • Ensure all staff follow the instructions for safe working in the department, and comply with all relevant Cygnet policy, procedures and protocols.
  • Rotate/Re-design with dietician input menu on a 3 monthly basis in consultation with all interested parties.
  • Recruit, induct, appraise, supervise, retain, and discipline staff in consultation with the Hospital Manager, in keeping with relevant Cygnet procedure.
  • Audit operational activities of the department according to the agreed annual plan.
  • In consultation with the Hospital Manager / General Manager take any action required to remedy non-compliance or poor standards.

You are...
  • An experienced Head Chef used to working in a fast passed environment.
  • Preferably experienced in working within the healthcare sector dealing with strict dietary requirements.
  • Able to plan nourishing & attractive menus within available budgets
  • An excellent communicator able to liaise with people at all levels
  • Qualified in catering to City & Guilds 706: 1 & 2 level or NVQ Level 2/3
  • Experience in supporting and leading a catering team to provide food to the best standard.
  • The holder of a food hygiene certificate, with good personal hygiene standards.
  • Polite & professional, with a positive attitude to internal & external guests at all times
