Job Description

Support WorkerNational - £28k - £29.4k Outstanding pay using your people skills in an exciting role that really mattersAs an Immigration Officer in our new Intake Response Team, you will primarily be focused on processing illegal migrants detected in lorries and other clandestine arrivals, as well as providing a surge and response function across the Illegal Migration IntakeUnit.If you’re physically fit, can drive and have a genuine interest in people, plus you are open minded, resilient and have an empathetic manner, this is a fantastic opportunity to advance your support worker and people skills in a job where you can make a realdifference. The Illegal Migration Intake Unit (IMIU) is part of the Home Office and is responsible for the registration and screening of people arriving in the UK illegally.Your roleThis is an exciting and evolving job where you will be travelling within a 9-person mobile team to support IMIU or Home Office locations at short notice, sometimes for extended periods or overnight stays. You will be involved in a variety of roles and customerfunctions such as:
  • Examining and interviewing those who enter the UK illegally; including those who have arrived by small boats or in lorries at various sites across the UK
  • Capturing biometric data of those who have entered the UK illegally
  • Serving relevant immigration decisions
  • Other tasks relevant to grade
TrainingYou will receive 3 weeks (Mon – Fri) of paid training, remotely and in person, at one of our training locations where you are supported, coached, and mentored by an experienced team to help you carry out this worthwhile, varied, and demanding role. Including:
  • Personal Safety Training (PST) to keep you and your colleagues safe. Nb. This will require physical activity and contact with others
  • On-the-job training supported by a mentoring team until you are confident in your role
The support doesn’t stop there however as you will work as part of a team and will always have colleagues and managers on hand.You’ll need to
  • Be over 18 years, a UK national and able to work shifts (including nights)
  • Have a full manual driving licence
  • Have personal resilience, integrity, and the ability to respond to challenges in a calm and professional manner

  • From an employment background such as Security Officer, Operations, Support Worker, Customer Services, Driver, Law Enforcement, the Armed Forces or Emergency Services – however, this is NOT a requirement
