Job Description

Senior Battery Systems EngineerPermanentSouth Oxfordshire£50k - £60kCompany ProfileSince 2005 this dynamic world-leading developer of next-generation batteries based on Lithium Sulfur (Li-S) chemistry, has enjoyed consistent steady growth. With the potential to revolutionise the battery technology market it is now accelerating with opportunities developing from a spectrum of prestigious clients, not just in the UK, but across different continents internationally.The battery cells offer a higher energy density than Li-ion and are therefore attractive for a diverse range of applications and markets such as Aviation, Heavy Electric Vehicles, (HEVs) such as buses and trucks, and Defence.Senior Battery Systems EngineerThis is an expanding team reporting to the Battery Systems Manager. It is an interesting, varied role where you will be involved in the development of a wide range of battery systems for applications across the target sectors and in some instances working with a number of integration partners. The company encourages original thinking to produce innovative solutions for developing the technology further and the department provides technical support for Business Development activities involving several blue-chip companies. Occasional international travel may be required.Role and responsibilities:

  • Take ownership and technical lead within a Project
  • Requirements analysis and engineering specification development
  • Battery System design
  • Conduct FMEA and Safety analysis
  • Act as a main technical point of contact for customer interaction
  • Liaising with external design contractors and battery integration partners
  • System integration and testing
  • Embedded software development
  • Writing documentation
  • Shape companys future by actively driving and contributing to the Battery Development Strategy, and taking ownership of a specific strategic development area
  • Working within this dynamic environment requires a can-do attitude that can deliver quality results in a timely fashion, whilst responding constructively to new ideas and inputs. Flexibility and a willingness to take on new tasks are essentials and we expect a hands-on approach when necessary - this can involve anything from circuit design, software coding, through to battery assembly, testing and integration into the target application.The Successful Candidate for Senior Battery Systems Engineer will have much of the following:
  • Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or similar and several years experience in a product development environment
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and results driven with experience of both hardware and software
  • Product development or research experience in design of battery systems or similar technology
  • Good understanding of system engineering principles (V-cycle)
  • Able to conduct FMEA and safety analysis
  • Experience in real-time embedded C software implementation
  • Testing through appropriate software and hardware platforms
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and thermal design
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with strong influencing and engagement skills
  • Highly disciplined, analytic and well organised
  • Experience of any of the following would be an advantage:
  • Battery management systems or comparable complex safety critical systems
  • Working with high voltage and high energy systems, including high current DC switching
  • Project management such as PRINCE2
  • LabView and Matlab/Simulink Recruitment
