Research TechnicianSalary: £32,850 to £37,089 per annumLocation: South Kensington, LondonImperial College London has taken up the call to help expand the national COVID-19 testing capacity. We are creating a purpose-built Lighthouse Lab, to be operational from January 2021 where we will conduct Pillar 2 Community testing using the College’s own breakthrough testing platform. We now have number of opportunities to join our world-leading scientists and assist in the effort to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.Duties and responsibilitiesAs a Research Technician, you will process samples in line with laboratory and quality management processes. You will work in accordance with laboratory SOPs and ensure high levels of cleanliness in the laboratory area.Key responsibilities include sample setup, including manual pipetting and plate preparation using benchtop equipment (manual or automated); preparation of PCR reaction mixtures and appropriate controls; and operation of PCR instrumentation.For more experienced technicians there is scope for further responsibilities.Essential requirements- Undergraduate or Masters degree (or equivalent) in a science subject- Sound knowledge of molecular biology- Some experience working in a laboratory environment and a clear understanding of the health and safety protocols in a lab environment.- Experience of working with clinical and biological samples- Ability to work and collaborate successfully in a team- Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the roleFurther informationThis role will work on a shift pattern and will include day, evening and weekend shifts. You will be hired on a fixed term contract with all the benefits of being an employee of Imperial College London.
