Job Description

Tagsa Uibhist provides support for health and wellbeing to vulnerable people in the community across the Uists.Since formation in 1999, Tagsa has expanded and grown to become the major provider of a range of care services which meet the needs of the vulnerable population throughout their island community. All the services and projects have been developed specifically to benefit the community and include home care, mental health and well-being outreach, community transport and dial-a-bus and self-directed support. Tagsa also deliver specific projects including "Grow Your Own Community" which encourages locals to grow more of their own food and aims to create greater social cohesion, and the Cuimhne Project which provides support for those with dementia, their families and carers.Tagsa is funded through a combination of statutory funding, grant funding from charitable trusts and organisations, local fundraising efforts and individual donations. As a major provider of care services throughout Uist, it is paramount that a robust fundraising strategy is developed and delivered to support the ongoing delivery of vital services.Alongside a robust fundraising strategy, Tagsa need to grow and maintain strong relationship with the Local Authority - Comhairle nan Eilean (Western Isles Islands Council), and have more collaborative relationships with other voluntary sector organisations on the Uists. With an overarching goal of becoming a sustainable and self-sufficient charity that delivers consistent services to a high-standard, fundraising and building strong relationships across the region will be essential.The Chief Executive of Tagsa will be influential, bring fresh idea and approaches and will lead the charity to a successful future. They will be central to devising a new strategy for Tagsa which will include a thorough assessment of existing practices, services and deliveries as well as a new approach to growth which will include innovative approaches to care, service delivery and a robust fundraising plan.Building relationships and becoming an influential person who can grow high-level networks within the Local Authority and local voluntary sector will be required. The Chief Executive will look at bringing innovation into these external partnerships and developing the way things are done to benefit all.Leading the charity day-to-day, the Chief Executive will inspire, drive and develop the staff of Tagsa to achieve success. Fundraising will be crucial to the future of Tagsa and the Chief Executive will have a strong knowledge of fundraising principles which allows them to diversify and grow income streams. Tagsa delivers social and community care and we expect the Chief Executive to be experienced in these areas with an understanding of the nuances and challenges that may be faced.It is important that applicants for the role have an awareness of the unique nature of the community they will be joining. Benecula and the Uists sit on the edge of Scotland, isolated from the mainland and feeling independent in relation to other islands in the Hebrides. Ideal backgrounds include senior management within social and community care, voluntary sector management or a director level post in Finance or Fundraising. You will have a track record of developing staff, building strong relationships with external stakeholders and be a strong communicator across all levels of the charity. You must be resilient, mature and approachable while having a dynamic nature and adaptable approach.
