Job Description

Job purpose

  • To assist the site team in the management of projects from contract award through to completion; reporting to either a Site Agent or Project Manager depending on the complexity of the project.
  • To assist in the successful and timely completion of projects for Interserve by applying the quality, health, safety, environmental, sustainability and Lean procedures of the business, whilst maintaining and improving client relationships and working with the team to achieve financial success of the project.
  • Responsibilities
  • Business Continuity Planning. Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same
  • Manage your direct reports and the workforce in conjunction with the wider project team and help create a "one team" approach on projects
  • Manage, maintain and enforce health, safety, quality, sustainability and wellbeing standards as required by Interserve’s policies
  • To build long term relationships with clients, the supply chain and other key stakeholders within a scheme to help with project success and repeat work
  • To build and develop skilled personnel to support Interserve and cater for future growth
  • Appraise the risk to the scheme in conjunction with the Project Manager and install and monitor adequate site security
  • Promote the use of I-care behavioural safety within your scheme
  • Ensure the site fulfils all obligations for external compliance audit
  • Ensure Permit to Work systems, Inductions and Briefings are correctly carried out
  • Ensure basic company requirements for supervision, competency, first aid cover etc are fulfilled
  • Maintain the culture whereby everyone is continually seeking to satisfy customer requirements
  • Ensure systems are in place and used in order that quality of work is to the prescribed standards
  • Identify Assist to introduce new processes, techniques and innovations on site
  • Plan and co-ordinate the operational delivery of the project as required
  • Oversee the day to day construction processes and ensure co-ordination within the site team, client and contractors
  • Attend meetings with and maintain necessary regular contact with clients and stakeholders
  • Rigorously apply and enforce methods and controls to ensure the most effective and continuous use of Company resources
  • Assist with the control and monitoring of the progress of the works
  • Administer reporting systems (wrt delivery notes, Plant hire and collections, waste management, ) to maximise cash flow and profitability
  • Implement strict controls on subcontractors, suppliers and operatives
  • Post contract, organise and co-ordinate the undertaking of maintenance work
  • Ensure full participation in staff development review, training and mentoring
  • In conjunction with the site management team, manage the project procurement process for suppliers and contractors in line with the Interserve processes and commercial best practice.
  • Actively seek to implement Best Practice wrt site operations and ensure knowledge of HE’s Raising The Bar documents for implementation on HE projects in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Manage fatigue in the workplace and ensure operational compliance with HE’s fatigue management requirements.
  • Actively promote actions to achieve our Sustainability goals and the Clients KPIs on a day to day basis.
  • Develop team culture to create an environment where motivation and morale is high and earn respect of team members to gain their commitment and support that ensures their optimum input in the project;
  • Ensure customer care for all the stakeholders involved in a project – promotion of positive image of the Interserve name to protect and promote the brand name;
  • Have active involvement within the wider Interserve business to enhance awareness and abilities and assist Interserve in our strategy to "Continuously Improve".
  • When required, to participate in Interserve improvement activities and workshops
  • To manage and mentor Interserve direct operatives within a business unit.
  • Knowledge skills & experience
  • Collaborative working, planning and implementing Lean techniques;
  • Relevant Technical knowledge and ability to visualize and interpret drawings;
  • Good practical knowledge of site construction techniques and requirements;

  • PersonQualifications
  • CITB Level 3 Safety Course SMSTS (5 day);
  • Appropriate CSCS card;
  • First Aid at Work (4 day);
  • Relevant Job Experience
  • Has held a similar position with a Civil Engineering Contractor for a sustained period ;
  • Experience of working within the highways sector;
  • Experience in all aspects of modern highways schemes for HE and local authorities – inc earthworks, piling, steel structures, insitu concrete, retaining walls, temporary works;
  • Proven experience of a supervision background demonstrating progress through different levels;
  • Experienced in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint;
  • Experienced in supervision of Foreman, Supervisors and direct workforce;
  • Planning and organising resources in order to meet tight deadlines.
  • Specialist Knowledge
  • Dependent on the project or section of work being supervised: specialist knowledge may at times be desirable or essential;
  • Understanding of key construction techniques and key risk for Highways Works;
  • CPD evidence of relevant post graduate practical training e.g. attendance on courses for Forms of Contract, Scaffolding Appreciation, Formwork/Falsework Appreciation, Concrete Technology, H&S Management, planning e.t.c. (desirable);
  • Appointed person and Temporary Works Co-ordinator; (desirable)
  • Behavioural safety training (desirable)
  • Training in Lean principles (desirable)
  • Proactive approach to the environment and customer care of all the stakeholders involved in a project – promotion of positive image of the Interserve name to protect and promote the brand name.
