Patient Services PorterLocation: Huntingdon, CambridgeshireJob Type: TemporaryDuration of booking: Expected to for 3 months and likely to be longerProposed start date: ASAPSector: HealthcareBase: HospitalBand: 2Pay Rates:£ 10.00 to £10.50 paye inclusive of holiday pay per hour*Depending on skill and experienceWorking Days and Hours: 06:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 22:00, 22:00 - 06:00 Monday to Sunday incl. bank holidays (rostered shifts)Job SummaryYou work primarily in one porter team but will be expected to work to cover planned and unplanned absence, subject to having the competencies required to perform each specific activity. To work closely with colleagues to provide assistance where requiredand respond to the different needs of all wards and departments. Working as an effective team member, the post holder is expected to be flexible and work effectively with colleagues within the Trust and department. Please note this role will require mediumto heavy lifting and movement of goods.Duties

  • Escorting and conveyance of patients and visitors by wheelchair trolley or bed to and from wards, clinics and reception (including x-ray and theatres out of hours and at weekends)
  • Transportation and delivery of samples (in appropriate containers) and forms to pathology lab and delivery of items from pathology lab to wards and clinics.
  • Delivery of drugs and controlled drugs to wards and theatres from pharmacy and the collection and delivery of TTO (drugs) and forms to pharmacy and wards.
  • General mortuary duties, collecting deceased patients from wards, out of hours and at weekends, reception of deceased from outside agencies, laying out and preparing for family viewings and police identifications (under exceptional circumstances, subjectto relevant trainings being received).
  • Collection of empty ward boxes
  • Transportation and delivery of medical records
  • Movement of beds, and associated equipment
  • Provision of security presence within the hospital (doors, locks etc.)
  • Responding to fire alarms within hospital and staff accommodation and check source of alarm etc.
  • Maintain medical gas cylinder stocks throughout the Trust
  • Delivery and collection of clean linen trolleys to and from wards, departments and required areas
  • To move furniture to waste compound for disposal
  • To maintain high personal hygiene at all times
  • To collect/deliver specimens from all wards/depts. to the pathology laboratory
  • To collect blood products from the blood bank and deliver to wards/depts., collection of special waste (venesected blood, radioactive blood) and delivering to collection point using prescribed procedures.
  • To collect drugs from wards/depts. and deliver to the requested area
  • To deliver meal trollies to all wards and return to kitchens
  • Ensure all equipment is used in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and maintained
  • Removal of any equipment found to be faulty/ unsafe and report to the appropriate authority
  • Cover reception desk out of hours, responsibility for signing keys in and out, dealing with enquiries from the public by phone or in person, duties for access to staff accommodation for lockouts or lost keys
  • Recording all ad-hoc jobs in log and dispatching personnel over the radio device
  • Responding to cardiac arrests, to be available to replace equipment in the event of equipment failure, replacement of spent oxygen cylinders and transport of urgent bloods to lab
  • The post holder will ensure that he/she is fully conversant with his/her role as detailed in the Major Incident Plan including the actions listed on the Action Card appertaining to the post holders role
  • The post holder will ensure that he/she is fully conversant with his/her role as detailed in departmental fire emergency plan and fully understands their obligation as an integral part of Fire Emergency Response Team (FERT) including actions listed on theaction card appertaining to then post holders role
  • Infection Prevention is of paramount importance to the safety and wellbeing of our patients at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The Infection Prevention and Control Team use national and local guidance and policy to formulate Infection Prevention Policy and Proceduredocuments. It is the responsibility of all Hinchingbrooke Hospital employees, to comply with the Infection Prevention and Control Policy and Procedure documents. Compliance with the relevant documents will be assessed during appraisal.
  • Comply with the roles and responsibilities as defined in the Trusts Health & Safety Policy and the KSF outline for this post.
  • To be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults by undertaking the appropriate level of training in accordance with the safeguarding policy training strategy and being aware of and working within the Trusts safeguardingpolicies.
  • Ensure all data collection and processing undertaken is consistently accurate and timely and complies with The Trust Data Quality Policy and local procedures.
  • Dependent on agreed working patterns between manager and employee, this post may be a Designated Night Worker post under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
