With a few countryside connections, this senior role will be a breath of fresh air. Youd be part of a Top-20 firm, working exclusively with agricultural clients and with a lot more autonomy.Its an ideal step forward for you if youre a Chartered Accountant whos already in the rural sector. Or perhaps the idea of working with farmers and their families instead of faceless businesses could lure you back into practiceEither way, you wont be plunged in at the deep end. First, theres a handover period - a few months to learn the ropes from the current Head of Rural Team.As you can probably imagine, working with farmers isnt always easy. Their time is valuable. Sometimes, theyd rather be hosing down the cow shed than counting beans with you.But, if you have the personality and patience to win their respect, youll find its really rewarding. Youll be using all of your knowledge to help so many different types of businesses to succeed.Youll meet high net worth individuals with King Lear-esque IHT issues; youll need to know your APR from your BPR. Agritech start-ups looking to diversify their income streams. Youll handle restructures, demergers; complex capex and fixed asset questions - when was the last time one of your clients bought a 500-horsepower combine harvester worth £300KRelationship-building skills aside, were looking for ACA/ACCA, senior-level technical experience (both strategic and operational) and the ability to manage and motivate other team members - theyll take care of day-to-day accounts, billing and forecasting. All in all, its a chance to become a respected part of local farming community and to be seen as an expert in your field.
