My clients in Cambridgeshire are looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher, Chemist: Battery Materials. This role is commutable from Cambridge, Bedford, St. Neots, Huntingdon, Sandy, Yaxley.JOB PURPOSE: Contribute to developing the next generation of energy storage materials by designing, synthesising, and testing novel functional materials for batteries. Work within a multidisciplinary team to maximise the performance of battery materials and contribute todeveloping a deep understanding of the key structureproperty relationships in functional battery materials and materials formulations. KEY RESULT AREAS: Strong scientific contributions to the identification, structural design, and development of functional materials for battery applications. Formulation of functional material inks and pastes and their pre-device fabrication physical characterisation. Establishment of the chemical structure-property correlations in functional battery materials and their impact on device performance, resulting in the development of improved materials and device structures. Contribution to the generation of Intellectual Property (IP). Effective communication with all team members and the wider organisation to distribute results, discuss problems, and provide next-step recommendations to progress the project. Contribution to deepening understanding of the battery applications space, and to identifying key experts in the field. Contribution to projects with third parties as required.MAIN ACTIVITIES: Creative contributions to brainstorms, studies, and project meeting discussions. Proposal and design of novel materials and recommendations to solve chemical synthetic issues. Synthesis and chemical analysis of organic chemistry targets, including NMR, FTIR, DSC, TGA, other analytical methods as required. Contribution to the formulation of electrode and electrolyte material inks and pastes, including solvent screening and microscopy studies of the morphology of dried material deposits. Accurate recording of all practical work to ensure that new Intellectual Property (IP) is appropriately documented. Contribution to the drafting of invention disclosures and patent drafts. Initiation, delivery, and documentation of high-quality studies based on sound scientific hypotheses to achieve R&D targets. Compilation of results in a timely and accurate manner, in the required format (written, verbal, formal presentation). Effective communication with synthetic chemists, analysts, device physicists, and the project leader. Training/coaching responsibilities as required.KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Chemistry PhD or a Chemistry degree and equivalent work experience gained in an industrial or academic environment. Strong knowledge and practical experience in synthetic organic chemistry is essential. Ideally relevant work experience in a high-tech R&D or manufacturing environment. Computer literacy is essential. Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office products and chemical drawing packages will be advantageous. Additional background knowledge of inorganic chemistry, polymer physics, and relevant analytical techniques would be beneficial. A good understanding of structureproperty relationships in functional materials would be a distinct advantage. Knowledge of polymers and relevant analytical techniques would be beneficial. Experience with battery technologies and electrochemical techniques would be a distinct advantage.o A demonstratable interest in the synthesis of functional materials and their evaluation in some device format would be a distinct advantage. Ideally, experience in process optimisation and Design-of-Experiments. Experience with Intellectual Property (IP) generation and patent filing would be an advantage.Salary circa £36-38k per annum but flexible for the right candidate. To apply for this Post-Doctoral Researcher, Chemist: Battery Materials role in Cambridgeshire please contact us ASAP!
