Job Description

Job Title: Post Doctoral Researcher - Fluorescent Tags (F-Tags)Location: HuntingdonDuration: 18 months fixed term contractSalary: £35k - £40k, dependant on experienceThe RoleREED Scientific are recruiting for a Post Doctoral Researcher to accelerate the development of our clients innovative fluorescent tags. In this role, you will develop microplate assays in order to simulate real life biomedical applications, and will usethem to evaluate the performance of the F-Tags.Responsibilities

  • To develop and optimise surface chemistry within microplate assays, which will include the immobilisation of biomolecules to the surface.
  • Develop surface chemistry to immobilise high density arrays of DNA
  • carrying out assay work according to protocols in orderto support in the material development of innovative fluorescent nanoparticles
  • Initiate, deliver and document high quality studies and projects based on solid scientific reasoning to achieve R&D targets
  • Compiling results and presenting data
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and external associates
  • Identify IP, file invention disclosures and provide feedback to guarantee quality patent applications
Qualifications, experience and knowledge required
  • A PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biological Chemistry, Surface Chemistry or a related discipline, or a degree with equivalent relevant work experience gained in an industrial or academic environment.
  • Experience of surface immobilisation of biomolecules is an essentialrequirement for the role
  • In addition, experience in one or more of the following would be highly desirable:
    • Fluorescence based assays
    • Surface characterisation techniques
    • Understanding of oligonucleotide immobilisation techniques
    • Surface functionalisation of nanoparticles
    • Programming experience in python or MATLAB for the automation of data analysis
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present confidently and to influence
  • Have the ability to convey complex scientific information to non scientific colleagues and management.
  • Be self motivated to the ability to work independently
