Job Description

Complex Military Deafness Paralegal / File Handler - MOD Disease Claims (NIHL)The File Handler will be working on high value NIHL cases with the scope to work on strategic projects. The File Hander will be responsible for carrying out individual fee earning tasks on cases for and in support of the Associate.The role offers flexible agile working with approx. 1 day in the office per week for training, supervision and development. The role can be based in Bolton, Liverpool or Coventry.Key Accountabilities To undertake initial steps on a file including sending out acknowledgements, and procedural documents such as an AOS/NOAConducting such investigations as are appropriate and as may be delegated by the Lead File Handler, this could include obtaining and reviewing military personnel and medical records, review of civilian medical records, obtaining and reviewing liabilitydocuments, drafting response to a letter of claim, locating and interviewing witnesses.Carry out standard procedural tasks such as completing DQ, costs budget questionnaires and drafting consent orders etcProgress with training to be able to complete non-standard procedural tasks, drafting non-standard court documents such as Defences and Applications and progressing to advocacy on interim hearingsInstructing Counsel and expertsTo assist the Lead File Handler in progressing the file in the most appropriate mannerEssential Skills & Attributes Technically proficient in dealing with NIHL cases and/or having a willingness to learn quickly in a technically challenging environmentExperience in handling own caseload Proficient in MS Office (word and excel in particular) and experience of using a Case/ClaimsManagement system.
