Job Description

Are you looking for your next legal move Do you have experience working in a legal environment Do you have the skills and ambition If yes our Keoghs team in Bolton are looking to add an Assistant File Handler to the Casualty team. The Assistant File Handler will work within a team of litigated File Handlers providing assistance on their caseloads. Their caseloads are all EL/PL cases handled on a non-delegated authority basis.In addition the Assistant File Handler will manage a small caseload of files on behalf of a number of insurance clients. The caseload will consist of predominantly pre-litigation cases.The role provides an excellent introduction to EL/ PL claims with the scope for development within the team which handles cases with a potential value of up to £100K, on a non-delegated basis.The role requires a forensic and analytical approach to employment and public liability issues together with experience and/or appreciation of the documents and evidence required in these types of cases.Key Accountabilities

  • Considering concepts and merits of primary and secondary liability in employment and public liability claims.
  • Handling matters in accordance with client SLA’s.
  • Interviewing Insureds and their witnesses and taking statements
  • Instructing Counsel/investigators/medical and other experts.
  • Reviewing evidence.
  • Costs Schedules.
  • Reviewing quantum
  • Dealing with a variety of litigated tasks such as Disclosure.
  • Negotiations & liaising with other parties involved in the claim
  • Dealing with routine correspondence.
  • Conducting investigations.
  • Initial report/review and setting strategy for the management of the claim.
  • Reviewing matters throughout.
  • To ensure compliance with the SRA Code of Conduct
  • Essential Skills and Attributes:
  • Education standard of LPC, ILEX, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience of EL/PL claims would be advantageous
  • Self-confident with good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the business
  • An ability to organise and prioritise tasks using initiative
  • Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required
  • An ability to maintain attention to detail when dealing with repetitive tasks
  • Good Literacy and IT skills
  • Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
  • Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Values framework
